turbo the p5 or trade for WRX

Hey, Isn't there somebody on here that has a turbo p5 (or mp3) AND a WRX?

Yes, yes I do remember seeing someone here with "turbo P5 and WRX" above their avatar, anyone can help me here?

you can either be the fastest pro5 (not gonna happen with 6psi) or you can be faster than all pro5 (WRX)

WHOEVER said this is an idiot, not to be a dick but ive already beat a wrx (on the freeway). thats with only 4lbs bo0st, i expect to do a lot more to my car so i know i will be able to beat more wrxs.

it all comes down to this, if you want and like your pro5 to be the sheit, then go and get it turboed. if you care at all about a warranty then get the wrx, cause with the pro5 all warranties are gone. then again, if you put exhaust, headers, intake, a drop, that could void the warranty also. sounds like youre one of those people who just want to drive your car around and not check up on play with it, so from reading the posts, if i were YOU, i would just buy the wrx. get the oil changed from the shop every 3000 miles instead of doing it yourself, and let them work on it when something makes a noise.

im sure all of us turboed pro5s and mp3s knew what we were going through when we put it on. if something goes wrong, we know that WE have to fix it or pay the money for it. im pretty sure we dont care about the warranty (i know i dont) because we were gonna do everything to our cars ourselves.

like i said, from how it sounds, JUST GO WITH THE WRX/

I know how to work on cars (at least the older ones). I have a 77 TransAm that I am currently restoring (400 w/ 4 spd).

I don't mind getting dirty... I change my own oil in the p5, do the standard maintenance, and don't take it in for minor stuff (i.e. squeaks and rattles i fix myself). In fact I haven't ever taken it in for warranty work.

The only think I am concerned about is tranny or engine issues. I could give a rat's ass about any other because I would consider them minor.

I just don't feel like dropping 5 grand into the car just to blow an engine or tranny in 6 months. I guess that's what I am referring to about reliability (primarily engine and tranny). That's why i was stating that I would have FM do the install (do eliminate any install related problems).

I am just trying to get all the information that I can and make the best decision. As I stated before, I love my p5. And If I can turbo it (6psi) and not worry about engine or tranny issues (for 60k miles or so) then I plan to do so.

Thanks again for all your replies.

I spent a lot of time looking at WRXs. I was on my way to put money down to order one and I drove by a Mazda dealership. There was a beautiful blue MP3.

Drove it, loved it, bought it. F the WRX. (And I owned a Subaru already--and loved it.) Anyway, styling alone can answer which car is better.

I have no desire to be one of a million idiots with a WRX or a Lancer for that matter. (Instead I'll be one of 1500 idiots.) But being one of 1500, and able to surprise the crap out of just about any car (win or lose), I'm enjoying the MP3.

It is up to you what you want to do. There are days I would happily tell you to buy a WRX. But the rest of the time I wouldn't change it. Even with the money for the turbo and future spending on a clutch and LSD and maybe a tranny or two :) I'll still be at the same $ spent as a WRX with a few mods. So even $, a standout in the crowd and a definitely better looking car. My decision was easy. But I'm a person who can't help but look out the window a couple times a day at my car. If you aren't that kind of person, then it doesn't really matter.

Sorry, for the rant, but no one can tell you what to do, and no one should. This post is all about me! What works for me, might not be what works for you, and while this forum is great for spreading knowledge, it also spreads a lot of crap and BS!

Decide what makes you happy and do it, you don't need to please some idiot on the forum (even if it is me)!

Peace!

Thanks for the reply Beavis.

I too am one who looks at my car a few times out the window and admires it on a daily basis. That's one of the reasons why this is a difficult decision for me. I honestly like the idea of being a little more unique than the standard wrx owner (with a turbo p5). I also like the suprise factor that a turbo p5 would have.

And trust me, I am not trying to please anyone. I am just trying to gather as much info as I can so I can make the best decision. I guess this is what 5 yrs of college does to you :-)

I am currently trying to find stats for our stock transmissions. i.e. What HP they are capable of handling. If anyone knows, please post it. One thing that would make my p5 different is that its a Sport shift Auto. So I am also wondering if these numbers would differ btwn manual an auto.

All in all... I'm just trying to do my homework.

Yeah, good luck. I don't have tranny numbers for you, but I'd almost guess that the automatic would fair a lot better (there is far less you can do to screw it up). My opinion though.

As for school, been there done that. Mechanical engineer by day, car mechanic by night. It is a tough decision to make, so I can appreciate the thought you're putting into it. I feel your pain or something.

I face the same debate on "bad days". Two days ago, I took the wife to look at the Evo. She looked at it and said "If that's what you want." Then she paused and turned aournd and said, "I can't see why you would trade the MP3 in for that, Little Beavis (the MP3) is way better." See, I knew there was a reason I married her! :)

I agree, it just something about this car.

didnt mean to sound like an ass earlier but it seemed to me that there were all these people on the PROTEGE forum praising the WRX! go buy a wrx and go to that forum for that matter, lol, there i go again. all and all, im not sure about the tranny, i know autos dont really hold up in the long run, my old truck had to change trannys about 5 times cause it was auto. surprise factor is the sheit, sometimes hondas or whatever will pull up next to me and start pacing me, they try to gun it and i stomp on the gas and they hear the roar of the dump pipe and its hilarious to watch their faces. some cringe, some stare, but mostly all of them back off with a "what the **** he got" look on their faces. its the best. you can pull up to a wrx and know he got balls, or you can pull up to a turboed p5 not knowing anything, till you get your ass handed to ya.
