Turbo Sizing? HT18S-S2

I have a turbocharger from my 1988 Turbo II, a Hitachi HT18S, and I can't seem to find compressor maps for it, not to mention not many specs on it. I was thinking of using it as the basis for a turbo kit for my P5, but I really don't think the FS-DE makes enough exhaust to utilize the turbo very well. Anyone familiar with turbos care to pipe in? The 13B this was originally on pushed this turbo REALLY well, but the FS is a different story entirely. Thanks in advance, guys. =)

That turbo won't spool until your REALLY high in the rev range. The RX7 pushed that turbo "okay", they would have done better with a slightly smaller turbo(for faster spool). Saying that, the turbo was a really good match for the engine actually. But think of the 13B-T as a 2.6L instead of a 1.3L. That turbo, on a Mazda Protege, won't start spooling until 4500-5000rpms...although, it will flow a LOT of air. The HT18S is about the same size as a T-03, so think of it that way.

If that turbo was a little smaller like what n1xrr said then it would be a great candidate for a turbo kit...The rotary engine is a exhaust breathing monster and that turbo was a little laggy on my 87 turbo II..maybe if you can check on changing the wheel trim a bit it would spool earlier and have that advantage of the exhaust trim to breathe good on the top end.

I finally found the maps on the HT18S, and yeah... Flow requirements are a LOT higher than the FS-DE can pump out... I'd be hitting max boost at 5000 - 5200, so it would be pretty useless. =) The HT18S actually is a really good turbo for the Turbo II, but I also have no catalysts (Racing Beat turbo back), so it spools in quite a bit earlier than any Turbo II with the stock monsterous monolithic converter still on it. =) Thanks for your input guys! Either of you wanna buy a turbo with around 18k miles on it? Hehee.

If It was suitable for the protege it would be a rather easy turbo to come across. The Mitsubishi td05-16g can be used on the protege with no problems. GREDDy also uses this turbo on there kits http://www.rx7store.net/product.asp?0=220&1=313&3=471 and its the td06 for the 2nd gen rx7 as a upgrade btu I dont know the exact difference with the 2 turbo's. The td05 can be found on the eclipse turbo also. There a few members running this turbo and I've seen the price for a brand spanking new turbo for $550- and up...not bad for a replacement turbo if something goes wrong.

maybe something to look into...
