Just as the subject reads, I've decided to sell the Protege. I need some advice on what to ask for the car, I have butt load of things to pay off and thats the point of selling my car. I'm thinking somewhere around 22k. Maybe 24k and settle. I'm leaning towards getting an S2000 or my uncles pumped out M3. The fact of selling my car keeps me up at night. Give me all your thoughts please...!

i think it would better to sell all the stuff you bought for the your p5 and to get back most of the money you spent already. i would buy some parts!!

work two plans out....

1) sell it with all the upgrades (may be tough to find a buyer that will percieve the same value that you have worked into the price for all the aftermarket stuff)

2) Sell it fully stripped, sell aftermarkte pieces seperately. (easier to sell the car stock; more possible buyers. Sell the parts on this boards and others.)

I agree

This comes up all the time over on the Miata Forum. I think if you do manage to sell it "as is" you'll lose a bundle.

First, it's a very selective "audience" who would be interested in buying your car at all the way it is modified. Second, anyone wanting to buy it would need to put about $10K cash down, as the "books" the lenders will use for the loan will have the "value" of your car at ~ $12K, and the prospective buyer will need to make up that "shortfall" with a very large cash downpayment.

Sadly, very few in the first group are also members in good standing of the second group ;)

Dude..Take it back to stock..and sell the turbo system seperatley... most people will not purchase a car that has aftermarket turbo's!!

I would strip the Turbo and sell the car as stock as well... Especially since you live in Cali, first time they pop the hood on that thing during a smog check it's going to fail no matter what comes out of the tailpipe.

ok you guys may think he might not be able to get that for the car, and yes it does sound a little steep BUT there are always some young ass kids that would love to have the car and they have rich mommy's and daddy's .......... I have seen this stuff happen twice with both of the truck that my husband used to have
the first truck that we sold was an 84 s-10 with a lot of mods and rims and new paint and all of that stuff the truck was sold for $5000. and that was in 2000......
to some kid who loved the truck and his mom and dad bought it for him SO........ you never know

why wouldnt i buy a new one if i can afford 22 k ? I would think many would prefer to drive a new engine, new P5 rather than a used, 2nd engine, P5, right?

Take it back to stock and sell the parts. My friend has a 98 supercharged prelude with over 20,000 grand put into the car(almost all engine and suspension parts) with less than 50,000 miles. An hes selling it for $17,500. No one wants to buy it. There is nothing wrong with the car either.
As for those kids with rich parents, most likely you will talk to the kid first. Which usually leads to a dissapointment because the kid will say "yeah sure my parents will go for it." Then it leads to a long drawn out argument between he/shes parents and never ends up happening. Not worth it if you want the money any time soon.
just my thoughts

Yeah. Price=Cost of car + cost of upgrades you added almost never translates. Especially in a "compact" car market. People are looking for value. If someone has 24k to spend on a used car, they ain't lookin at P5's. Your car might only be worth 3k or so over top private sale price for a P5. Unless like the other guy said, you find some young ass buyer looking for that exact car.

Maybe if it was a race specific car with a proven track record. Like if FM were to sell the 'Track Dog' or something.

Bring the car back to stock and sell the other stuff. You may make even more that way.

and if it is not exactly what they want... those rich ass kids will rather get a new car, and mod it to exactly what they want !

i punched my car into kbb before (www.kbb.com) and it was only worth 11 grand, i doubt someone will pay double that for a car with a turbo on it, no offence, good luck though

why are you selling it in the first place? the other cars are just going to make more bills, and will probably run more than this. i wouldnt sell it but if you do, make it stock and sell the turbo and extra parts on here, youd make a lot more money that way, laters

this is just me talkin here.....i wouldn't buy a car that has all of these aftermarket parts on it....it seems as though you lose all bragging right because they weren't yours to begin with. i look at it as your driving someone elses car that was tight and that your tryin to crap off of.......just sayin'.

yeah wait a minute... You said you were going to sell it because of bills, but then you turned around and said you then wanted to buy an S2000 or some modded M3. WTF? However I can completely understand I'd take either of those.. but hmm..

If I had 22K to spend on a car I would get one that was built for performance rather than one that was modded for performance. Would you buy a used Golf with an after market turbo charger or a new GTI? Just makes more sense to me, not to mention warranty, service, etc...
