hookay so. a few weeks ago i noticed smoke coming out my exhaust so im pretty sure that my oil seals in my turbo are going bad. my bearings wind up and down fine i can hear them and the turbo seems to be spooling as usual. i took it to the local turbo dealer and they wanted about 500 to rebuild it and would not simply replace my seals. so if there are any mechanics out there that are up for the task and want the extra cash price is negotiable. i will buy the parts and take my turbo out and ship it. i do however want it done right. no first timers or someone looking to learn. i would like it balanced and done right. please and thank you! someone get back to me!

What makes ya think it's the seals? What kind of smoke is coming out the exhaust? I mean, saying that you noticed smoke coming out of the exhaust is nothing unusual.. it's what's supposed to come out of there lol. Is there oil leaking into the intake? Try taking off the charge pipe and intake off the turbo and see if there is oil residue all over the place. That's usually a much better indicator of blown seals.

As for mechanics who rebuild turbos, I would contact a couple of the vendors on these boards. I'm not sure if either one of these places does turbo rebuilds, but I would imagine they do. Start with ProtegeGarage and Crossover.. see what they say.

You can't rebuild Garrett ball bearing GT turbos yourself, only special facilities have the tools to rebalance the assembly or change out the CHRA for a new one. Getting a new CHRA will be fastest and easiest to get up and running if you do not want to upgrade the turbo.

My seal went bad too but I'm going to hold out to when I upgrade it.

sam, i could be wrong but the T25 is not a ball bearing turbo correct? and for ones that are, i read somewhere that you cannot get replacement kits for ball bearing turbos. i am aware that it needs to be correctly balanced which is exactly why im not letting just anyone give it a shot. this car has enough problems as it is lol

The GT2554R is a dual ball bearing medium frame turbo. Like mentioned before, it is highly recommended to purchase the CHRA from ATP Turbo if you do not want to upgrade to a larger turbo. ATP might still offer an exchange deal for your used CHRA or complete assy. I would be very cautious letting a shop rebuild this turbo for the ball bearings cannot be replaced to my knowledge. If you do your research you will find that most reputable turbo shops will not rebuild these turbo configurations.
