turbo and stock auto = i just blew my tranny

Does the $3200 level ten tranny require you to send in yours for a trade? Or do you keep yoru original one?

you keep yours, its a whole new tranny. you will NEVER have to worry about blowing that one.

Hey Trav,

I am so sorry to hear that. Build that new tranny and get the real power out of your motor. I would say your engine is putting some serious HP. You have a 3 inch exhaust all the way to the back without cat converters and running sometimes up to 13 psi of boost. Your engine at 10 psi on 3 inch free flow exhaust could be near the 250 WHP. We dynoed ours at 10 psi on the 2.25 exhaust and got 232 WHP.

The automatic transmission is capable of 200WHP at the most.

Good luck with the rebuild and if you decide to go with the level 10, let me know. I will support you to get the max out of your engine and car.

Juan

I was just wondering, has anyone actually tried the level 10 tranny? Because I have heard bad things about level 10 trannies but for other cars like the honda accord, this one person had a turbocharged accord and got a level 10 tranny which blew 2 times before he sold it and it was not making all that much power.

lentech makes one but youd have to make new mounts. ours are just like the focus trannys, i could swap in a 6 speed svt tranny but there is no time or money to do it.

level 10 is all i have to work with. i wish i could get a sponsor. i would show what the autos can do. but no one wants to sponsor me. after all i did show what an auto can do, no one else had the balls.

Trav, like I said before, I am sorry for what hapenned, however I think that you being brave enough to find the limit of the auto tranny with the turbo is very good and helpful for this community.

We have to give you credit for this and like you said, there are just a few people like you with the balls to test what the car can handle and even more when it is your daily driver.

I hope you can build your Level Ten tranny and then show what the Auto P5 can really do.

Juan

this is for people that know, please only reply if you absolutley know what it will take to do this:

MSP manual tranny into a p5 would i really need the ecu? only thing auto ecu uses over standard is shift points, im running stand alone fuel so rpm dont matter.

would the shif linkage be a b**** to install and the clutch?

do the tranny mounts differ from an auto?

how much HP can a msp tranny hold, i will blow those easy also. i need something to handle 400 whp. buy the time i do a conversion for a msp to handle 400 and install the clutch it would prolly be cheaper spending 3200 on a bomb proof tranny good to 1K hp and direct bolt in. just curious, i know there is info on this but this is a good thread to put it in.

thanks for all the support guys, if you plan to boost plan on having counseling for boost happy syndrome.

damn bro sorry to hear it, guess i need to get a new tranny before mine goes too, i should have the money for one in a month or so but im only at 5 psi so i should be ok til then! gluck with the rebuild and let me know how it goes, oh ya and the guy that did my turbo is gettin the msp tranny and hes building his car to put out around 400hp like you want, so im guessin they can hold that much hp

I believe the MSP tranny is no different than the others except for different shift forks. So, I don't believe it is good for that horsepower unless the stock ones are good for that (and there are plenty of people who will say they aren't). Best of luck. And although it has been said many times before. . .that sux!

yes but who with a msp has takin it to that much hp? i havent seen any...so without doing it you cant say it can withold the hp or not

I agree with you. . .I have NO clue how much HP the tranny will take. There are a bunch of people who will tell you it won't take much. . .then there are plenty like myself that are turbo'd and pushing a lot more than stock into the tranny without problems. I don't know what the limit is. . .I just don't know if decked wants to be the person who finds the limits of the manual after he has "successfully" located the stock auto's limits. And if the MSP only has different shift forks (is that all?) then I don't see how that is going to help it hold much more power than the stock ones when its time does finally come. . .but as you put (100% correctly I might add), I can't say it won't hold the hp. . .but you also can't say it will!

sorry to hear the bad news. If your really aiming for 400hp just do the level 10. There is know way a msp tranny could hold that power daily driven.

joe had the fastest msp on the board. 14.0@100mph. he ran 18psi and dynoed at 264whp. so i'de say the 5 speed has a lot in it.

if your going for that kind of power level ten all the way.. do it right do it once. Goodluck sorry to hear it. your mazda bretheren.

well after hearing BS with level 10, they said they had a rebuild kit, then now i get this email this morning at 6:58 am:

DearTravis,

We Dont have a rebuilt kit for your tranmission, however we do offer an in house transmission upgrade. This includes the Valve Body upgrade, all the components, like , steeles, clutchs, bands, seals, gaskets etc. The Price is $3264 + $498 for a torque converter ( we can adjust the T.C. to a suitable stall speed) .

So now I am really ******. I will just have to get a stock auto tranny and dont boost until I can get the level 10 tranny.

what a way to start to the morning. Guys I am not shooting for 400 whp daily driver, i just want it to be able to take that much so when i do get there and i race it wont blow then take the boost back down. i am shooting for 300 whp daily driver.

the thing is time, this is my daily driver, i dont think i can do a auto to manual conversion in a week.

GOOD NEWS!

well not really but better then expected.

fluid is totally clean of clutch and gear. only thing bad is the converter. i will order a convertor from level 10 and have them adjust it to a mild rpm so that the stock clutches can handle it and i hope my stator can handle it. i want it to last about 6 months while i locate a wrecked msp i will buy.

im not pulling it myself i dont think because i dont have the time.

i will do a write up when i switch if over to a manual, dont worry.

i wish greenmp3 lived close :D

peace- trav
