TT Harness and Daylight Running Lights

Listen, no need to tell me to do a search on this, I just need to reiterate the obvious. Safety before Suicide. Uhem.

If mechanically/electronically feasible, then to me this makes sense:

1) Turbo Timer Plug-in Harness- Plug and play is always better and safer than nip and cut. They made them for RX7s and a load of other cars why not for us? GReddy, HKS, you guys listening???

2) Daylight Running Lights- In Canada it's a requirement. Has someone figured out what relay needs to be installed or swapped to make US models conform to Canada standards. Why did Mazda think that the US Market wasn't ready for them?

I would buy it and I'm sure numerous others would buy it too.

I'm not an electrician, nor can I read wiring diagrams, but I do know how to install car stereos and build computers from parts. However, in comparison, I wish not to take a $25K gamble with screwing up stock wiring harnesses and watch my car burn due to an evil electrical short.

Has anyone received word or rumors of such products making it to our shores? Thanks in advance.
 
Whilst I can answer the question out right, I do have to ask. Why the curiosity on turning a US spec car into Canadian Spec? And for what its worth, I don't think you need to do any wiring stuff to convert to DTRL. I believe with most, its just a computer thing.

I'd like DTRL too... I don't see the down side... well, it probably cost a fraction more.

Did Mazda leave them out because some people consider safety features to be "wussy"?

Simple. Insurance rates are cheaper if your car has DTRL. Its always about money...
 
Ah, ok. At first I thought you were trying to bring a US spec car into Canada, and was gonna say have fun trying to get it serviced anywhere, lol. I'm not sure with Mazdas, but I believe that it is simply a computer issue. I know for most of the domestics, if you want DTRL, they just need to turn it on. Why Mazda didn't do it stock? Shrug.

We have been working on the turbo timer harness for the speed3 The big delay in this product being built is the connector for the ignition switch. it is proving to be the tough part getting them built without making the harness a $60 item.
 
Meh! I can care less about dtrl. If the ms3 came with it from factory, I'd be looking for a way of disabling the damn thing. (notcool)
 
there is no problem at all with splicing the turbo timer into the harness it takes like 10mins at most it wont hurt anything one bit

How would it work? I mean, I know this is gonna sound stupid, but I'm a newb to turbo cars. I guess what I'm asking is will the turbo timer just plug into the OBD port or something? I'm looking at the Blitz dual TT/Boost Meter, so would this be able to hook up to something like that, or am I just sounding like a complete and total idiot?

I did some research on the DRL question. The stock DRLs have a relay and a fuse that the non-DRL cars don't have. They are in the main fuse panel under the hood. The fuse number is F22 and the relay is number R9 for the NA cars, R10 for the turbo. I looked at my MS3 and the sockets are there, but there are no connectors or wires for those components. So, to do this the factory way, you need to replace the main fuse panel, or at least take it apart and add the missing wires and connectors. Also, there is a wire to the PJB under the glove box and that wire may not be in the US model wiring harness. This info is for 2007, I don't know if it applies to other years.

I am sure it could be kludged in, but to do it the factory way, is a pita, and not cheap.
 
For DRL's just go with an aftermarket kit and wire them into the headlights directly. This is sometimes done on US cars being brought into Canada, no reason it can't be done on a US car staying in the US.

I'd fork over the $60 bucks. It is worth it in the long run. How many times do I get too lazy or so late for a meeting that I can't wait the 30 sec cool down? Couldn't say for sure, but over a stretch of time, I'll be doing more than $60 worth of damage to the turbo. If $60 gives just two more weeks of life to the turbo when its all said and done, then that's $60 bucks I'll be glad to spend. CORKSPORT- take the holeshot and please make this endeavor happen. Heck, I'd even pay $80 to get 'er done. No way in hell am I splicing into wires. Not scared, just doesn't make sense, if a harness can be developed. Thanks!

He meant 60 dollars for the harness, not 60 for the turbo timer and harness.
With the 60 dollar harness it'll be anywhere from 120 and up for the complete package.

Thanks. I realize that. Sorry for sounding ambiguous. As far as I know, Corksport doesn't make TTs. I'd get a Greddy or HKS and use a Corksport Harness and pay the $180 total price, not including shipping. I'd spend the money I would have saved from insurance, IF I had DTRL! Noneless, I drive around with my Parking lights on during the day. Some states its illegal, I know. But I'm not in the states, ha. However, in Germany, it is illegal to drive with fog lights on if there is no fog.
 
It has been proven that DRTL do nothing to improve safety. That is why most US vehicles have dropped them.
 
Good article. I can appreciate the part about wasting gas.

Still, from experience on a motorcycle, its always better to be seen. I know 3 people that got hit while riding a bike and a buddy of mine killed a guy who was riding a bike. Guess what?- probably none of that would've happened if the car lights were on, but we'll never know. (Of course, it'll be easy to assume that all bikers are morons, but I beg to differ, I think Jesse James is phenomenally smart and gifted guy. Plus he has a super hot ass wife. lol)

Hard to miss my True Red Car color though...

I hate people who drive around with their fog lights on for no reason...

Personally I cannot tell whether mine are on or off while I'm driving.
