Thank you for this.

I see that this is not for 2009+ MS3's. Do you think this could verify some change in the engines between years that Mazda has not verified as of yet?

To clarify, I was not the one to first post the TSB. The dude who goes by BlueDevil3 was. I was reading the smoking turbo thread over in the MS6 forums and he said that he had a copy. I asked him to email a copy to me and he did. A little while later he posted it in the thread. He's the one to thank.
That TSB sure did help my cause, I got a warranty replacement. One dealer by my house denied the TSB even existed (Sesi Mazda in Ypsilanti, thanks for nothing Dickbags!)

I don't know why this TSB is not in the TSB thread. It might be the most important TSB out of all of them.

Well my '09 was built on 7/2008, so how do I know 100% I got the "good" turbo? My s*** would smoke sometimes, even when I was 100% stock. And now the thing started backfiring today when I engine brake. WTF?!? God damn, I wish I had held out and gotten a ******* GTI.

I wouldn't worry about the occasional pop from the exhaust, when it gets cold mine does it when I down shift and it's no big deal. what you can do is reset your ecu so it learns the "cold", my HT tune is not much better so I might go back to stock for winter to try and save some MPG.

Wow. Nice that they didn't include the 2009's. Mine has smoked even when stock since 15k. Honestly though I don't want them to touch my car and im sure with my exhaust mods the "new and improved" turbo would be a chimney in 10k anyways.

So I am currently getting my turbo replaced due to the smoking issue. Had 40k on the car when the dealer finally agreed to change it. I did ask the dealer if any changes has been made to fix the issues with the turbos. The service tech looked in the computer and told me the turbo has gone under 8 revisions and they are currently sticking with the 8th. I do hope it works out and they have fixed the problem.

Open your driver's door, and there's a sticker with the recommended tire pressure. I believe the birthday sticker is near that place too.

I am having the same issue with mine, and I had the dealership use the alternate oil (5w40), it helped for about six months, so I went ahead and put in the intake and inlet, and it started to smoke again. I took out all the after market parts and put the stock ones back and it's been two days and it hasn't smoke. The dealership clearly stated that in order for me to request for a new turbo, they have to see the smoke themselves. What should I do- 1. keep running stock and wait for a solution for the turbo; 2. put the after market parts back on and just let it smoke; 3. get a lemon law attorney and go through the trouble....

Odd, I've never heard of pre-turbo mods causing the smoke to show up. It's usually when people remove a cat or two that the smoke problem they've been having all along, but haven't been able to see, shows up. My only suggestion is try video taping it. I've heard from a couple people that certain dealerships have allowed that.

I did record it the first time, and that was why they agree to put 5w40 instead. But now they said that they need to see it instead of going by the video, but I can't really predict when it's gonna smoke, can't just jump out the car and start recording....

1 and 3 are your options I guess. Taking it in with mods will probably get you flagged, and at that point you might as well trade the car in for something else with a warranty, since your Speed won't have one anymore. :(

Sadly, this TSB is the "solution" from Mazda. The bulletin implies that they will not address this issue any further than the replacement. Now if you want to try the bnoon bolt or the PTP pill, those might be a cheaper solution, provided your seals aren't totally cooked already.

Just wait, you will not need to predict when it will smoke for long. The only prediction I needed was to wait 60 seconds, plenty of smoke then. You will get there too. If you don't believe me, remember reading this reply...

So after going to the dealership for the 5th time regarding the smoke on Tuesday, the only answer I got from the service adviser was that there's nothing wrong with my car and anything I said was not documented so I can't prove anything. His attitude was the worst I've ever seen. When I told him that he needs to learn to explain to their customers better due to some confusion with the bill after the service, his reply was "no, maybe you need to listen better" I was not told I need to return the loaner's car with the same amount of gas, I am sure I would do so if I was told; his reply once again was "it is comment sense for you to put the gas back, hertz, and enterprise do it too, you used someone's gas, you'll have to pay for it" I wouldn't be so upset if I was told in the beginning; he basically told me I have no comment sense. I've deal with them regarding the same problem for 5 times in a year, so basically they are saying that I was imagining about my car having problem.... He even told my husband that "you gotta pay to play".... I can go on and on about what he said, but nothing can make me feel any better about how I was treated by him.

my husband got a call this afternoon right after I've decided to get rid of the car, the service manager called and apologized and said that they got the authorization to replace the turbo.

Who is the dealer? I use Jim Ellis Marrieta.

It was Jim Ellis in Atlanta, but I think they are own by the same owner.
If you haven't had problem then you are good. Perhaps I should start driving all the way there to get the service done...

Please tell me you called the dealer manager... and since dealer managers never give a s*** that service managers are garbage, please tell me you called Mazda North America...
I am seriously contemplating calling the dealer myself, asking for the service manager and tell him to what a piece of s*** he is and tell him to go f#$k himself. Sorry you had to go through that. I had the exact same thing happen to me at Sesi Mazda in Ypsilanti, MI.

I had issues with Jim Ellis Atlanta and Rick Case Mazda for smoking turbo issues. However, Jim Ellis Marrieta covered my turbo with a cat-back and Mazdaspeed intake.
