mazda 3 sports nav 64 plate
Hi everyone

Am about to become the owner of a brand new 64 plate mazda 3 2.0 sports nav, black with all the bells and whistles, and was really excited in getting the car as the test drive was very good.

Was promised the car 4 days ago, but when it was having its final checks it threw up a fault code.

Dont know if i have a wonky dealership, but it took them 2 days to diagnose the fault, as they hadn't see this code before on a new car, but was finally told yesterday it needs an abs module unit. They say they have raised a job card, ordered the part and will fix it asap. They say they will give me a courtesy car until car is ready.

Now i have said erm.... no i dont think so, i want another car, am not having a car which has this fault before i even receive it.

They have said as the car is registered to me, has tax on it and all the plates etc, its easier to fix this car and will be quicker for me to have rather than sourcing me a new car and de-registering it etc

So need you advice and opinion as what i should do, i thought the abs module problem was on the older mazda3 cars and was due to a manufactorer fault, i didn't expect it on a new car especially one thats never been driven before.

thanks in advance for any help

Not sure this is in the right section please move is necessary

I think your dealer handled the situation properly...of course, that may be hard to take since you're the one taking delivery of the car. It would be cheaper and faster for them to fix the car you've already registered rather than trying to get a new one.

If it makes you feel any better, the hood on my 2015 Mazda 3 (manufactured in Mexico) has paint issues going on under the clear coat - my dealership agreed to fix the issue under warranty.

Even new cars aren't perfect - there may be the odd problems with certain cars coming down the assembly line...but it doesn't seem to me your dealership has really been trying to mislead you on what the problem is, nor are they not trying to fix the problem expeditiously. They do have to go through channels to fix these kinds of issues (someone has to pay for the problem), so that may be way it took a couple days.

Hi grasshopperC0

Thanks for the quick reply, it has somewhat put my mind at rest

when i look at it logically and take a step back from the situation what you say does make sense, i suppose it was just the anticipation of collecting my new car, i get 5 mins from the dealership only to receive a phone call telling me not to turn up to collect the car.

And as i said i thought this abs module fault was on the older mazda 3 not the new ones, the internet if full of this problem which is not a good read when you have just bought a new one of them!!!!

oh well a little bit longer is not gonna make that much difference

thanks again

Yeah, getting the call 5 minutes prior is definitely not cool...I had to wait a week to get my new car after I traded my old one in. I bought it on a Saturday with the understanding I would get the car on the following Monday, and I had to wait until Friday. Apparently the dealerships don't do a good job of tracking where their cars are at when they're in transit from the factory.

As far as the car itself goes, I can forgive my paint issue...and at least they're going to fix your ABS module. I know the manufacturing process isn't perfect, but Mazda's not the only one that occasionally has certain build quality issues with new cars. I haven't been hearing good things about the new VW GTI or the Focus (both the ST and the normal ones).

My biggest complaint with this car is that the paint seems to be remarkably flimsy, but I know that's a problem that's plagued Mazdas for awhile. Maybe they put the paint on so thin in the interest of saving weight? Or money, I suspect. All I know is I've had the car two months and it already has its fair share of scratches and imperfections. Oh well...that's why I got some touch up paint. At least some of it will get fixed when they repaint my hood :P

to be honest up until monday just gone everything had gone smoothly

they sourced the car and it was delivered to showroom on the 11th feb, we didn't have a car to trade in, my daughter is having my car, at daughters rates or free to others who have no children lol

Told me i could pick car up at 5pm on 16th, so i had no real problems at first. I know there can be problems with newly built cars, but what gets me is that when they get the car ready for you to pick up, they do it on the same day as you picking it up, which in my opinion is silly, as they would have known bout any faults before hand if they did it say the day before.

when i asked Mazda why they check the car on pick up date, they say its more cost effective to do it this way, erm..... i dont see how cause if it has a fault, then it doesn't matter what day you get it, it will still have that fault, but you could warn the customer in advance so to speak.

oh the joys of buying a car lol hope they sort out your paint job soon, wow new car and it needs re spraying wow thats not what you expected hey lol

I had accepted a price from the dealership by email and scheduled a time when I would stop by to pick up the car. When I arrived, the car was parked near the main door, but was not clean. It also had lots of small bumps and scratches in the clearcoat. I was told that the car won't get washed until the paperwork is signed, and there were many cars ahead of my 3.
Washing the car did not remove all the bumps and scratches, so the dealership offered me (to be completed at a later date) a full detail. Because I don't live that close to them, I decided to do the detailing, myself.

But regarding your original question: I would have no problem waiting a couple of days for a minor fix. If it were something like a transmission replacement, I'd be weary about buying any models of that make of vehicle.
(I have heard of this happening to buyers of American vehicles.)

hi all

just a quick update, i can pick up the car tomorrow at 10

wow cant believe its finally ready, only took a week and half to fix, but hey ho its done now

well finally picked up the car, and wow its more than i expected it to be

really smooth, great acceleration and fantastic handling

the only downside is that i really dont like the accelerator pedal, its sort of opposite of what i have been used to, its a long full pedal with the up and down bit at the top of the pedal, but with having little legs and feet it is a bit strange and awkward at the moment, am used to having a normal sized pedal which you push down at the bottom of the pedal if you know what i mean lol

well as thats the only negative for the moment, happy days lol

thanks to everyone for their comments

The accelerator pedal just takes some getting used to - I actually like it better for heel-and-toe driving :). I had a bit of trouble for the first few days getting used to the 6-speed manual (Every time I tried to shift to 6th, I'd end up getting 4th....I kept missing 3rd gear..the throw for the shifter was much different than it was on my old 2 lol).

Hi grasshopperCO

Well it would be good if i could get used to the pedal, but my husband keeps getting to the car first to drive lol

As am on holiday from work at the moment, my husband is taking the car to work, so not getting as much practise in the car as i would like!!!!

But yes i am luving it
