Trip computer (How does it estimate 'remaining kilometers before empty'?).

Anybody know how the trip computer calculates the 'remaining km' before empty?

Does it get reading from the fuel gauge?
How does it know if I put in full tank, or just few liters?

Is there a button that I need to press to tell it that I've filled in full
and that computer can now start 'calculating'?

Thanks.

Yes, it's tied to the fuel gauge. The trip computer will reset the "miles until empty" meter when you fill up the tank -- it simply checks to see if the fuel gauge is within a specified range at the "full" end. The owner's manual explains that if you fill the tank, only burn a small amount of gas (say, a gallon or so), then top the tank off, the "miles until empty" meter may not reset. There's no button you need to press to indicate that you've filled the tank; the computer figures it out on its own.

I'm convinced there isn't a fuel level gauge and it's trying to calculate based on how you are driving. Mine is always way off. I drove mine past the 0 miles to empty the other day (probably 15-20 miles past), then filled up and could only fit 9.7 gallons in............. we have an 11.3 gallon tank or so the manual says.... what gives!

Thanks. Interesting. I've been filling up full tank. I'll try filling up halfway and check if it gives accurate distance before refuel.
