I noticed a strange 'clicking' noise last week, while engaging the clutch.
So far I can only hear it while in 2nd gear. It could very well be happening with all gears, but I can only hear it while shifting or downshifting into 2nd at low speeds.

Does this sound normal to any of you?

Normal? Nope.

Expected? Maybe.

If it gets worse, have it checked out.

I have a service appointment on wednesday and I'm planning on having it checked out.

I know you're not a psychic, but do you have any idea what it could be? I'd like to to know what to tell them when they give me their usual explananation: 'It's normal!'

Thanks :)

Is it a continuous clicking or just when you engage/disenage the clutch?

Continuous clicking could be something like a chipped gear inside the trans or possibly flywheel-related.

Just a single click when clutching could be something related to the clutch pedal itself or possibly the link between the slave cylinder and clutch fork. That shouldn't show up only in one gear but it may have something to do with the torque load while in second gear or something.

Without actually hearing it, it's almost impossible to conjecture.

It's a single click.

I'm pretty sure I can only hear it when engaging the clutch. I'll try to see if I can also hear it while disengaging the clutch, on my drive home tonight.

Can you feel it as well as hear it?
It might be something as simple as the neutral safety switch on your clutch pedal.

They said it was most probably a broken engine mount. They will change it and investigate more if it doesn't fix it. (dunno)

My brother had a broken engine mount on his mz3 and the only way you would notice it is the noise that second gear made. So I agree it is possible that its a broken mount. Although I think his was a grinding noise.

That's weird. Well, maybe not so weird because there's a TSB for the mount but I've never seen one that just clicks when it's bad. (dunno)
