Trading in a 2019 GT Premium for 2024 Premium Plus, worth it?

2019 CX-5 GT Premium
Hey folks, just curious to see if others have done trade ins for 2019 to 2024 models and what they were offered (I know this can fluctuate based on time bought / traded in).

I bought my 2019 not to long ago as used 50k miles and have been getting nonstop offers from Mazda dealerships to trade in as my model. The closest comparison to my model is premium plus model for new models as there is no longer a GT line or Premium package it seems.

Any suggestions on whether it is good to get a new one versus keep my current? I bought my car in all cash.

I have a 2019 GT Turbo bought new that now has a little less than 50,000 miles on it. I too was getting ready to trade it for a 2024. There is nothing wrong with it and it's had no problems over it's 4.5 years. I was starting to worry after hearing about the cracked cylinder head and how much the repair would cost if it happened.

Instead, I decided to keep it for another couple years and purchased a Platinum B2B warranty from Mazda.

Would you be open to sharing how much the warranty costs / covers? I currently don't have any issues (but don't have any warranty anymore) but did read about the cracked cylinder is that also applying to the 2024 model?

It cost $1800.00. It's 5 yrs/60,000 miles from the time the warranty is signed. It covers everything the 3yr/36,000 mile factory warranty covers. There's no deductible, you don't pay and get reimbursed. The dealer handles everything, and any repairs would be done by the dealer. It covers auto rental ($50.00 per day), dislocation benefit (If you're travelling and something happens) and 24 hr roadside assistance.

This is through Mazda.

I would imagine the price would be less if you acquired the warranty while the original warranty is still in effect. Mazda lists the warranties as New and Used so there must be different pricing.

This is a bulls*** scam that nearly every dealer does...
Was it something like this?
"We are getting low on used cars and are paying TOP DOLLAR for used cars now! Bring yours in and we'll buy it from you at a premium! Limited time offer!"
...until 3 months from now when we will send this again...

They just want to sell you another car. If you're happy I would not.

It was more about them offering the close to the same amount of the car and tax off on the new car. If I can get a 2024 for about 2-3k more what I paid for my 2019 then that sounds like a great deal to me.

You're right. For the last 5 years I've gotten an email every couple weeks from my dealer saying basically the same thing.

Help us out here with the details. In my area, 2019 GTs are selling for 22k max (about 50k miles on them). Figure they got 18 or 19k trade in value for that. Similarly equipped Premium Plus models, new ‘24s are priced at 38k MSRP.

Thats a significant difference, I’m doing some mental gymnastics to figure out your situation. It sounds like you’re thinking of trading in your 19, getting say $15k in trade in, and now you’ll only have to pay the remaining $20k, which is maybe a little more than what you paid buying the ‘19 used.

Unless you have that offer in writing, it doesn't mean much. In fact, even if you have the offer in writing, the salesperson is highly likely to throw in some ifs, ands, and buts to pad the final cost of the 24 while lowering the trade-in value of your 19.

One of my local Mazda dealerships tried to offer me a similar deal to upgrade to a 2022, so I talked to my brother-in-law who used to be a Finance Manager for a Nissan dealership. He confirmed what @7eregrine said. That offer of 2-3k more to upgrade is just a way to get you into the dealership so they can give you the runaround. If you have some spare time, you can entertain them, but that's really up to you.

Highly unlikely to happen for 2-3k. At least not with the CX5... may be a Stelantis vehicle more likely with great rebates.
New car prices are significantly higher (same model vs 2019 when new) and your 2019 used price is lower even though its higher vs pre-covid. Plus all the dealer doc fees and other crap and the nesw finance rates.
Leasing - may be more likely - i.e for the similar monthly.
