TPMS light keeps coming on when I start the car

Hey all,

The TPMS light keeps coming on every morning when I start the car. The passenger side rear tire is seemingly the cause as somehow it is always low on air despite the fact I put air in it earlier in the day or the day before. The tire isn’t flat and I don’t see any obvious punctures either.

The other three tires are fine and seemingly don’t lose any pressure. Any suggestions or thoughts? I’m going to see the dealer on the 15th but it is annoying that it keeps happening every morning.

Well, I would guess you have a slow leak in the tire, probably caused by a nail or screw that's still embedded in the tire (self-limiting). You'd have to jack up the corner and spin the tire to find it, but the dealer or a tire shop will get it pretty quick.

Note: this will not be covered by warranty, so a tire shop is probably a better/cheaper place to go rather than a dealer,

Mix up some soapy water in a spray bottle and spray the tread if you want to find the screw/nail. You can also spray the valve stem to check it for leaks. Doesn't much matter other than knowing ahead of time if it's repairable or not. (Usually if it's within about 1inch or so of the side a tire company won't repair it) .

Discount Tire (if you have one around) will usually repair it no charge.
