Towing with the P5

Figured I would spread the love a little bit. I took these pictures for our local AZ forums, but I knew some people might appreciate the pictures. :)

I needed something with a little more room to tow my Polaris to the lake. The B4000 only seats 2 comfortably, so maybe the P5 could handle the chore. I contacted hitchweb.com and ordered a Hidden Hitch for my wagon...

Tows comfortably up to and beyond 80mph (75 limit here in AZ). The only issue I had was backing into the lake since my car is lowered I was getting some water seepage past the back door seals. Oh well, we all have to make sacrifices! ;)

Anyways, here are some pictures of the hitch...

With Receiver in place:

and with Receiver removed and cover in place:

Looks nice. Seen others where the bumper cover had to be cut. This looks a lot better. Not to sure how to deal with water getting inside, short of putting an air bag suspension, which is bank.

i hate to be a negative nancy but i do believe it says in the protege manual NEVER TOW ANYTHING WITH YOUR MAZDA

and all I was going to do was get onto him for calling it a ..."waggon"....

I bet it also says to obey all traffic laws too!

It also tells you to keep kids under 12 in the backseat....those corporate folks really try to spoil all the fun...

There IS a very good chance that all warranty will be denied if they see your hitch and wiring harness.
I have a hitch on mine, but only use it for a bike rack. No wiring harness.

I am out of Factory Warranty. And yes, I looked at the manual and it says never tow anything with the P5. However, my Jet Ski wet is 440lbs, and the trailer is maybe 300. Just about *anything* with a motor can tow this trailer because of its lightweight.

I have a camper that weighs a ton. I would NEVER dream of towing that with my P5!!!

Hello fellow Mazda owners.
I have just added a Hidden Hitch on the back of my car, a very easy install, and it looks very clean.
My wife and I have just finished a road test with my new trailer. We drove 750 miles with the Holiday trailer in tow behind the Protg a few weeks ago. I pulled well, and gave us space for some extra items.
We also went to a motorcycle show with the trailer in Port Dover, Ontario, my brother towed it behind his Kawasaki 1500. The trailer gave us space for a large cooler, extra helmets, jackets, and we still had more space.
I Have started to make these trailers, for Motorcycles and for small cars. The trailer only weighs 200lbs empty, and it has a payload capacity 350lbs. for a total of 550lbs behind your car, I feel it is a good fit for the Protg.
The down side my Mileage did drop from 30 to 28 with the trailer in tow.
If any one is interested please check out my web site www.speedwagonmanufacturing.com
Thanks.
