towing with a Mazda3 5 door, 2010

just bought a 2010 5 door sport, not Mazda3speed, just the 2.5 engine.

The owners manual says you cannot tow with this car. However, U-haul makes a hitch for it. I want to tow a 500 lb motorcycle using a 500 lb trailer. The U-haul site says the hitch is good for 2000 lbs.

Does anyone have experience or advice on whether I can/should do this? Any warranty issues?

Any warranty issues?

If you've got a trailer hitch on it (or even signs that there ever was a trailer hitch) and anything in your drivetrain bites the dust, forget about Mazda covering it under warranty.

U-Haul might say the hitch is rated for 2000 pounds, but the car that it will be attached to isn't rated to tow any weight at all. Just ask U-Haul if they'll warranty your drive train if it fails...
