The tour de france starts on saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go LANCE!!!!

(usa)

If lance wins this year,,, it will tie the record for the most tour wins (5)!!!

Not a lot of hype on the event this year, due to the anti-French/pro-war feelings in the states. It's really ashame that Lance doesn't get more credit for his acomplishments. Instead we hear about Lebron, Deion, and Sosa.

Oh crap, I forgot about the great bicycle race. Yeah, go Lance!! For you cycling (and I don't mean harleys) dudes, which Tour deFrance was the best ever?

(sorry if I'm jakcing the thread but once the race starts let's cheer like crazy for Lance)

The best tour ever was when Greg Lemond kicked Fignon's butt by 8 seconds. That was deeply satisfying.

The Hinault-LeMond partnership was also dramatic when Lemond kept going up in the hills ahead of Hinault, what do youguys think?

Yeah, lemond was awesome,,, but my favorite moment was the lance/ulrich lookback on the climb of 2000. That was just sweet.

Alright guys lets get this thread in gear!

The Blue Train turned on their superchargers and took the Team Time Trial, Lance is in 2nd place going into the mountains. Tyler Hamilton's got a broken collarbone but he's continuing on. Nasty crashes and all...

Go Lance!!

I was just thinking that before I read your post. Back and forth and then it was like a turbo boost from Lance. Next thing you know Ulrich is out of contention.

Critics are saying he's not as strong this year as previous years and that the field is even stronger. However, they also say that his team (USPS) is much more balanced than previous years as well. We'll know it about a week...

talk about domination...i can't believe usps took the time trial...

hopefully my favorite tour will be this year if lance wins the tour *knocks on wood*...so we can shove it in france's face...USA! USA!

hamilton...i couldn't believe that he's continuing with a broken collarbone...he's a warrior

Poor hamilton and levi,,, stupid wrecks.

Can't wait until the mountains this weekend,,, then we will see who is in contention. Do not forget beloki and simoni as well... they could pose a threat.

Alp d'huez sunday morning. Lance is going to give it all, he has said that that stage is important to the winner of the tour, and to him personally.

Way to go Lance. Amazing! Too bad I don't have cable nor tv reception at all, will have to live off of the Net for updates...

Beloki had to drop out due to a broken right arm and twisted knee. This years tour has seen more injuries by main GC riders than i have ever seen.

Levi is out
Beloki: bad luck (tire exploded due to hot road)
hamilton: broken collar bone (still racing, what a warrior)

And they are not even half way through the race yet. Good thing wednesday is a rest day. time to regroup.

man...a lot of the contenders are getting injured...i just hope usps can protect lance...

all this tour hype is making me want to ride...oh wait it's 114 outside...urge is gone...lol

Not much cheering here - I guess we've all been busy (I know I have been) but yay!! Lance won it!!! wootwoot!

Now I gotta get off my butt and start cycling agin...

Hamilton amazingly came in 4th. Next year he may give lance a run for his money. This year's tour was great fun to watch.

It was great to see lance win for a fifth time. It may be a while before we see another cyclist like lance.

Next up is the vuelta.

ESPN talked about how people (Miguel Indurain) still believe that Eddy M. was the greatest cyclist ever. Simply because he raced year 'round, where Lance simply now focuses on the Tour.

However the story of Lance, his racing and his survival is inspiration for any athlete, anywhere.

He is amazing...

Eddy Merkx was just amazing. it was not only that he raced year round, but won too. Also, when he won stages in the Tour de france, it was not by taking the lead in the last 2 km, but he would attack with over 80 km left and win. Kinda like hamilton's stage win in this years tour.

It is really hard to compare cyclists from different eras because equipment, training, and competition is so much different now then in the early 80's.
