Ok, time for a serious answer here.
1) Just speed'n - I do not think you were mistreated on TOProtege, and as I said, if that's the way you interpreted it, then I appologize on behalf of our club. You did nothing wrong on our board. You posted a suggestion, and a couple of people made some jokes, but there were also a couple of people that welcomed you to the club, and gave explanations as to why we do not have it setup that way. It is something that the Officers of TOProtege have discussed several times in the past, and we decided that it was best to keep the board the way it is layed out now. As for the jokes that were posted in your thread....honestly that stuff happens everywhere. It's the web, you have to take replies like that with a grain of salt. As I also mentioned, if you came out to some of our meets, you would get to know the members on the board, and realize that they were posting as a joke only, no harm was intended.
2) About your comment of how long it took us to setup the board on VBulletin. Well, it was actually done overnight. We were using Ikonboard before, but thanks to the Membership program that we put in place, we were able to purchase VBulletin and transfer the forum over to it. This transfer was completed between the hours of 8pm and approximately 11:30 PM of the same night. The membership program also helps us to fund various events, and promotions throughout the year for our members, as well as bring on great club sponsors that treat our members very well. All money raised always goes right back into the club.
3) Yes, the plan has always been to expand TOProtege into much more than just a forum. You mention that it could be done so quickly, and while I don't dissagree, you have to remember that the Officers of TOProtege all do this on their own time. We are also busy organizing meets, and official club events, bringing on new sponsors, setting up group buys for the members, working our full-time jobs, and having a life outside of all of this. We do not get anything out of it, other than the satisfaction of having a great club, that helps people out. We do have many plans to expand the board, but since we are all volunteering our own free time, and the fact that we want it done well, it will not happen overnight.
4) Yes, we are ragging on MP5CD now. But as others have explained, this all started out with him registering on TOProtege, and trying to sell his Bootleg CDs. We clearly gave him warnings and asked him not to use our board to sell them. As others have mentioned, the reasoning for that is two-fold. The first reason is that it is not legal, and we do not want our board used as a means of illegal action like that, since there is a risk that TOProtege could be considered legally at fault for allowing this to happen on our board. The second reason being that as others have mentioned, we have Mazda Dealerships that are Club Sponsors to our board. If they saw that we were letting this happen, they could easily get upset and pull out, which would be a huge loss to our members. MP5CD was asked nicely to stop selling the CDs on our board. No threats were made, it was a simple request. Instead of respecting the forum rules, he decided to start cussing people out, send nasty PMs to a few of us, and trash talk everyone. We had no other choice but to ban him. He was asked to stop, and he flipped out. We don't need those type of members on the forum. You mention that people buy and sell drugs all the time, and that's illegal. Well you're right, but that's not the point. The point is, and always has been, that we do not want TOProtege associated with that. Just like if someone signed up to try to sell drugs, or stolen good, we would not allow that either. MP5CD's excuse was that he's been doing it for 15 years, and he's only trying to help people out. Well if that was true, he would not be selling them, he would be providing people with links to the same information for free on the web (and believe me, it IS available for free on the web). But again, it's not a question of helping or not helping. It is a question of copyright infringement. The workshop manual was released by Mazdamotorsports to individuals who competed in a set number of track events. It was provided to them with strict rules to not be distribute it in the open. With members like MP5CD blatantly disobeying those rules from Mazda Motorsports, it could easily piss them off, and stop them from ever releasing the manuals again. Now who would that be helping in the long run?
5) Regarding this thread here, yes, things are out of control, and we are being hard on MP5CD. However, it started out with MP5CD saying that he did not like TOProtege, etc. at the start of this thread. I felt that it was important to step in and explain the situation, since I would not want people badmouthing our forum for reasons that are their own fault.
I hope that you took the time to read this entire post with an open mind, and you understand where we are coming from. I invite you to stick around TOProtege for a while, and you will see for yourself that it is a great community. Again, I appologize for any ill-feelings that you got as a result of your first thread there. As I mentioned earlier, I do not believe anything was as bad as you felt, but that is up to you to decide.
From this point on, I will be keeping my posts in this thread on a professional level, and I hope that others will as well. I hope that this post has helped everyone to see the whole picture, and formulate their own opinions, rather than listening to a bunch of random rants.
