Top Gears look at the MPS?

The fact that he choose the ford over the mazda simply because of it's "cheap grill" proves he's not the car enthusiast he claims to be. I personally don't know what he's talking about but, even if it IS cheap, who gives a s***? It's still 10x better than those other POS cars.
you forget that he was one of 243 people on a 2 year wait list for some only 28 Ford GT's comming to the UK ;)

all his ford sucking up defentaly got him one, but what does he do as soon as he gets one? lol, he takes it back!

BHP does not = HP. The rest of the world uses different standards than us for measuring power, non of this SAE, junk. They use KW and BHP...

huh?
BHP=brake horse power=power engine makes before going through drivetrain to wheels. no matter what the measurements it's in.

I'm just wondering but did they state it was specifically 256 BHP? I never watched the video and really should not post but hey what the hell. The US is Bhp maybe they meant Whp?

Don't be Ameri-Centric (no offense ;)) The british use metric horse power.

Haha, he says:
If it said Ferrari SnortThruster X1 on the back, it would sell by the million. But what it actually says is "Mazda6", and that means this is likely going to be the slowest selling consumer good since philips launched the laserdisc.
Too true, too true...

Top Gear ... USUALLY bases numbers on WHEEL HORSE POWER....

274 horsepower at the crank... COULD mean 250's at the wheel... though i think we lose more than that...

The MS6 was released significantly later in the US than the rest of the world (JDM, Europe, Australia) as the US model is different. Mazda decided at the last minute that the performance level wasn't high enough for the US market, so they ran a different tune and a more aggressive final drive ratio.

None of those cars were designed for the track. As bad as that Spectra was, in the real world, when is the middle-aged middle manager type going to take a hairpin at 70mph?

Bingo! But still, that type of understeer could get you killed if you're trying to avoild an accident when you are travelling at a high rate of speed and need to make an emergency maneuver.

"As we know from America’s arrival into the second world war, their concept of “on time” differs slightly from ours."

Love that line (lol)

To understand why he and the rest of England would want a Mondeo over an MPS, you'd have to understand the Mondeo's reputation in Europe. The ST 220 is not a POS car, not by the very least. The Mondeo is so regarded for its quality and cost over there. Each Mondeo model, one after the other, never failed to deliver an affordable quality product year after year for umpteen years running now. If anything it's one of the things that Ford should bring here stateside, and I'm not talking about bringing it here like they tried to do with the Contour. I mean bring the ST 220 here. Unadulterated. Not dumbed down for us Americans.

But then again, I might be a little bit biased because the ST 220 shares the same engine as my 6. ;)

they're good cars.. but they just don't sell well, the regular mondeo's are outsold by 3 series BMW's.. and the ST220 version is one of the rarest cars in the world. iirc, they only sold 903 in 2005... aston martin managed to sell 1050 DB9's in that same year.

they sell <1000 mondeo's every year in the UK. That's less than the amount of aston martin DB9's sold every year in that country.

They sold less than a thousand ST 220's which is the top trim level. I was talking about Mondeos in general.

In 1997, Ford was selling Mondeos at a rate of 100,000 a year. Only recently (last year I think) did the BMW 3 series managed to outsell the Mondeo in the four door saloon category because the market has decidedly gone for upscale products, not because the quality dropped.

Watch the TG episode from June '05. Hammond describes the Mondeo as the perfect car for its price.

EDIT: LOL Sephiroth, I think you're watching the same TG episode as I am right now.

Nah mate, I'm watching the TG episode from last year where Hammond reviews the 3 series and analyzes why it outsold the Mondeo. Oddly, the discussion turned to what would they buy aside from the Mondeo. Jeremy picked the Mazda 6 for it value, looks, and "fantastic drive." (first)

It's episode 06x04 from FinalGear.
