Tom Tom Free Map Update in first 60 days?

I seem to recall seeing/hearing that we get a free map update within the first 60 days of purchasing the car? I've had mine less than 60 days, and I just got my TomTom SD card into my computer and downloaded all the updates it had, but nothing was for a free map update. The only thing I see is they want me to pay for map updates. Am I doing something wrong? Anyone know where to go for that free update?

Phone tomtom and they will make the latest update available, but don't do what I did, I complained got the download then two week later another update was available.

There are 4 updates a year, there are the approximate release dates somewhere, on the TT site I believe.

Check out the drop down menu items in TomTom Home. One of them contains the One Time Update and when selected will download the current map and install it on your SD card.

I got an offer from TT about a month after my 60 days had expired for one year at a discount with a second year free, which worked out to ~$20 a year. I took the deal.

$20 is pretty decent, I've seen map updates get in the $60/year range

When I picked up my CX-5 a few weeks ago it had ver.905 and there was an update to ver.920. The manual says i get 1 free update within the first 60 days. Just today I inserted my SD card into the computer and got ver.925, so 2 free updates. I wonder if NB1 owners get lifetime updates? If not, shhh, don't tell anyone, this didn't happen! ;-D

Software updates are free permanently. Map updates are the single update situation (unless buying a subscription.) I don't immediately recognize if your numbers are map ones or software ones.

They are offering me the map update for 71 bucks and this is the 10% discounted price for 18 months. Is this worth it?

Unless you live in a growing area where maps are frequently changing not sure it would be worth it. My original Garmin portable unit I bought 6-7 years ago (did not come with free updates back then) has never been updated and so far it's never been wrong as to directions and has always been able to locate an address. I'm still amazed TomTom makes us pay for map updates, seems to me every portable GPS I see for sale says lifetime free map updates.

Lifetime Maps may be wishing for a bit too much. However, I would expect that a single purchase would provide lifetime maps. That is the way the after market Garmin I use in my Prius works. BTW, I have paid for the TomTom updates and it looks like some display enhancements are packaged with the updated maps.

NOTE: The updated Maps are separated by State and if you need to plug in a Favorite that is out of State (making a long trip) the first thing you have to do is select the State before the unit will accept a Zip Code to locate the city. Kind of lazy (or sloppy) software development.

Just experienced that when trying to input a Vancouver, Washington address (about 25 miles from here). Frustrating!

went to update sd card and was told updates were available. when i went to update it got half way done and said there was not enough room on the card. this is only the second time i have gone for an update. anyone else run into this

Can anyone assure me that updating is something I should do or do I just leave well enough alone? I downloaded TomTom and set up an account as they instruct but have not inserted the SD card yet.

Overall, the updates is good to have. It fixes a lot of things and new maps too.
The biggest drawback to the latest update is that, the Safety Information screen does NOT automatically turn off after you select Nav and drive.
You HAVE to tap ACCEPT at the Safety Information screen everytime you start the car and go to the NAV screen.

I just got the same offer. I bought the 1 year last year in July for $39 and today it gave me same offer for 18 months for $39 USD.
I wonder if this offer is good up to July.

Hello, I just bought a 2014 CX5 and it comes with TomTom Maps from Mexico, I need the ones from USA/Canada. So I called the dealer and they say I need to buy another SD Card with those maps for approximately $500 USD. That's over expensive. It's there another place where I can get those maps if i already have a blank SD Card?
Hope you can help me!
