To move or not to move

This morning as I was cruising to work, some ass in a Lexus decides he wants to fly up and drive around me. I wasn't going slow by any means, probably 65-70ish with cruise control on. I wait until the guy gets to my side and then lay into 6th (standard procedure).

Long story short, he follows me to my parking spot, threatens to beat me up and key my car. So I took a pic of his license plate, said feel free then parked my car.

My question, since I have enough pride/stubbornness to NOT move my car, should I? If my car does get keyed, can I do anything with his plate #? I obviously won't have any evidence other than verbal threats. But that's my word against his in court.

Ouch, I think without a witness or actually catching him in the act there is nothing you can do to him

I think saying "feel free" was probably a mistake though

What's the deal with Lexus drivers? There's a silver IS350 that has almost killed me and a few of my fellow motorists several times in the last two months.

It's not smart aggressive driving either, it's cutting people off at the last second, doing quick lane changes without a signal directly in front of faster moving cars, and attempting to race people beyond interstate splits and s***. Chill the **** out!

Sometimes you have to be the smarter person. You did the right thing, as the car is only material and can be fixed.

I would have changed it up a little bit, psychologically:
*Point behind my shoulder*
"That's fine, we'd be glad to get it on tape. How much does your insurance cover again?"

It got pretty confrontational... a lot of words thrown around. He threatened to hurt me a lot but when I gave him a chance he didn't do s***... so i'm hoping the keying threats was all talk as well. I can't justify paying my deductible because I was too worried about him getting the better of me and not move my car. I'll probably move it but ugh.... dick.

Look into your state's concealed carry laws.
If it got the point where I thought my life was in danger I would of made the first move. Having a gun could of made things a lot easier (or escalate it further). Maybe I should buy one before they become unlawful.

Seriously, you are asking for it. Just let the guy go around you.

It shouldn't be standard procedure to floor it when someone tries to pass you. That sort of behavior causes accidents. Instead, just let him pass and increase your cruise control by a few clicks afterward. If there is a cop a few miles up the road he'll be the mark and you can continue cruising at your speed. If you want, dial the state police and report him as a reckless driver.

Am I the only one that does this?

(mswerd) The only time I accelerate when someone goes to pass is if there is no room and they are going to have to completely cut me off to finish their move. Honestly, if there is enough space, I usually just get out of the way. And yes, i would rather have the mark ahead of me, so I can watch for the quick brakes that tell me a trooper is ahead.

And who the hell follows another person to their parking spot for this s***? Don't people have better things to do?

All of that said, I'd probably not move my car. I might call the police ahead of time and let them know what happened. Give them the plate number. Most states have pretty hefty fines for "road rage" and even if not, it would probably work in your favor to have something on records about a person making threats of bodily harm or to your car. Good luck either way...

Asking for it? You must be a saint. (2thumbs)

For one, I highly doubt you've never driven aggressive enough to get a reaction out of someone. Therefore your post holds no weight in my eyes. If you truly haven't, well then my hats off to you. You sir are one very upholding citizen.

Yes, I like to speed up to prevent people from cutting me off. Why? Because there have been numerous times that I HAVE allowed someone to cut in front of me just so I can end up slamming on my brakes because he/she didn't feel like slowing down for the car that was already ahead of me. Cutting people off and passing are two different things. I'd rather him/her cause an accident behind me than ahead of me.

Sometimes, depending on the situation, I do allow cars to pass. If I think they're just cruising at a faster speed then OK, otherwise good luck to them.

he threatens to key your car? tell him to do it then tell him his car wont even turn in the morning haha you win

Yea, I decided to keep it where it is. If I move it today that's fine, but I'm not going to worry every day from now on that something will happen to my car. The only other place I would park is at least 10 minutes away and that's an inconvenience that I shouldn't have to deal with.

Should something happen, i'll go through the proper channels. I thought about reporting to the police but i'm thinking all this will blow over. I just hope i'm right.

+1... dumb Wisconsin doesn't allow it though...

this also happened to me when i was driving to work, found out he was my boss and threatened to fire me... i guess people get cranky when you actually drive the speed limit...

how big was this guy anyways? lol. was he twice your size?
lol no. I'm a big guy, 6'-1" and 240 lbs. Good mix of fat and muscle. He was about 5'-11" or 6' i'd say, and maybe 200-210lbs. He was wearing a sweatshirt so I couldn't really tell, but he was definitely a lifter. Wouldn't be surprised if he power lifts. Bald head, stocky. He fit the bill. He was also in his late 40's/early 50's. He definitely wanted to go but apparently wasn't willing.

+1 gazillion

Isnt 6th a really tall cruising gear? I mean, it's not like he came from behind you, moved over into a clear lane, and went to pass, then you floored it (in 6th) preventing the pass is it?

I generally drive on the right unless i'm passing folks. People move up on me and have to get over to get around me I count as a failure on my part. (should be alert to some tool in a hurry coming up fast). (granted mines a p5, not like I'm racing past folks. (cept the twistys!)

Regardless, actually following somebody to work and attempting to start a conflict is uncalled for.

*note* I've had people tailgate me, when it wasnt clear for me to move over, and theres a car ahead of me too...nobody going anywhere too fast. After a while of the whole 'tap the brakes', or just let off the accelerator game, I find the passive aggressive method of emptying my windshield wiper fluid so it blows back onto their car satisfying. I still move over when I can. Funny thing, one time, the guy actually passed, moved over and tried to spray me back...so I guess that validates the technique...message got through. (he was too far ahead though..none hit).

Ah yes....metaphorically pissing on 'em. Muuuhahaha
