So here we go. I want to build a SOLID transmission, no holds barred. Where do I go from here? Give me the info and sources. It has to withstand drag launches and track days, autocross and DD. Clutch is currently a SPEC Stage III+ and CV axles are stock P5 issue and AFAIK DSS doesn't make them anymore for the 3rd gen so...
(Putting 281whp down at the moment.)

Cut and paste to fill in the blanks as you please.

Car with solid transmission...

anywhere...

I lost faith on the car because of the tranny, I wouldnt boost more than 15psi. More than that is a time bomb. Still, if you want bulletproof it, you gotta spend.

cross over offered a fully PAR gear built tranny

PAR Engineering Dog Box Engagement Gear Set

* 1-5th gears, 5th remains synchromesh only
* Custom gear ratios are available
* Made to order
* Must use Quaife LSD above!
$5,135

LSD There is also an mfactory LSD too, but not sure if it will work with the above listed tranny

not sure what ever happned to the stage 2 axles though, i know SU had them cause i was going to buy them, but your second best option would be to get MSP axles. They are a lil thicker

Mazda G-Series Synchromesh Engagement
$3,250 AUD (plus GST)

^ I'm going with this one instead.

whats the site? What Gears?

Im assuming an Australian site which means you would have to pay for shipping from Australia. That is unless GST has something to do with shipping.

but if im not mistaken synchromesh is the stock engagement, so its pretty much a stock tranny with beefed up gears. Which you can do your self the GTX 3rd and 5th from PG for 450 and pick up a junkyard tranny for like 200 and just do a rebuild and spend way less, or if you can afford to have your car down just take out your tranny and save even more.

I went to the PAR website just to see what they have for our proteges. If what you explained is true then thanks for the heads up! I'm kind of in his shoes, but I don't plan on going to the track or autocrossing it very often (maybe once or twice a year). I will use it to wreck havoc on the weekends though or on my days off. I honestly don't have a "goal" anymore, but I want to stay in between 350whp and 400whp. Something that can take the abuse and be on the safe side.

I heard about that from Nick over at modern performance I had to leave so we really didn't talk much about it. Just that the company builds the trannies for the wrc cars. I'll shoot him an email and see what he says

if thats the case i would say you would be fine with some GTX gears, you could even take it a step further and get your gears cryo treated for added strength.

as far as axles go though, im not sure that the stock axles are rated for.

lets us know cause if they are not GTX gears and they add a few of there own touches/secrets to help with strength and durability that might be a cheaper route if shipping isnt to much. Has to be something good if they use them in wrc cars.

GST = Goods and Services Tax

makes sense.

par makes billet cups to reinforce the case. im going to go with straight cut 1-3 and syncromesh 4 and 5 needle bearings etc...you can mix and match and build it how you like. you have to have the quafe with PAR though if i recall correctly but hell, if your gonna spend 3k plus on a trans, you may as well get the best diff you can buy.

hey mate. my mate is running 267kws at the wheels on a rebuilt g series gearbox. and he is just running a par straight cut third gear, 626 5th gear and a welded mazdaspeed lsd... has so 4 about 3 years now.... and still goin strong :)

there is some youtube vids of his drags if ur interested

mat

Start with a new MSP trans from Mazda...

Quaife Diff
Reinforced bearing cups
Deburred gears
WPC treatment on entire case and all non-brass components
External pump w/ cooler

And it will probably still blow up... I think buying an Xtrac unit is cheaper in the long run. Whether you go PAR or Xtrac, straight cut gears will not make grocery runs enjoyable.
