Yeah, without offset, that question is hard to answer. But the 245/40/17's will be almost exactly the same height/diameter as the stock 215/45/18's. You're adding an inch to the rim width and a little over an inch to the tire width, and lowering the car. Offset will make a big difference, but I would suspect a fender roll will be in your future.

Sorry offset is +45. Backspacing is 6.25 if that matters at all. I posted this after midnight when I do all my best thinking. I am looking at getting some Motegi Traklite 2's for a set of specific auto-x/racing wheels. Going to mount some Hoosier A6's on them and was trying to decide between a 225/45 or a 245/40. More rubber the better but I'm not sure about the fender roll.

With 245/40/17's on 17x8 +45, fronts will need a 5mm spacer and the rears will work. Just roll your rear fenders.

Trying to avoid rolling the fenders. Found they also make the tire in a 245/35/18. If i got a 18x8 with a +45 offset might those work because of the lower profile? If not I might as well stick with either the 17 or 18 in a 225/40. Would the 17's need the spacer because of rim size or the tire size you were talking about above?

There was a local member on here who sold his car. He was running 17x8's with +50 offset on BC coilovers. His tires were 245/45's and had to run a 10mm spacer to clear the rings on the sleeve of the coilovers. a 5mm spacer was too thin. And I test fit some Enkei RPF's that were 17x9 +45 with 235/45 tire and I would need a 3-5mm spacer up front. And for the rears, depending how low you are, I still think you'll rub the fenders on bumps.

I guess I'll have to stick with the 225/45's on either a 17 or 18 inch rim. For now anyways (second). When I decide I want that extra grip I can buy a bigger set of tires and roll my fenders.
