Tint Questions

Cost was 269 US$ for tinting all around. Done today at Llumar Window Covering, Universal City, Texas. They said to leave it in the sun for 2-3 days and don't lower the windows for 24 hours.

Looks nice, what is the strength of the tint? (the percent light that goes through or however it's measured) I'm wanting something like what you have, not too dark and not too light.

I have 5% all around including the strip on the front windshield. I don't think it is dark at all, even though a lot of people wonder how I drive it......LOL

Heat: It's "30" on the front windows and one "shade" darker all around for the other windows; there is still one shade even darker than that. Thirty or 25 is the max for front seat windows in Texas; no limit for the other windows for tint. (Windshield is limited to a strip across the top.) I don't remember the number for the rear windows, but the tint shop was using the Llumar tint and had a display that clearly shows colors. If you can find a Llumar dealer near you that would be best just to see and talk about the options. These guys gave me an estimate and stuck by it to the penny a week later; no tax added to the estimate. You can locate a Llumar dealer using their website.

I just checked the Llumar dealers in San Antonio. They are all stereo sound shops except for the one I went to, A1 Glass Coatings. A1 was recommended to me by the Volkswagen Dealer here as the shop they use to do their tinting. I thought that was a pretty good recommendation. A1 is about a 50-50 percent automotive-retail shop installation. That is, a lot of their business is installing the tint on business display windows and not just on autos. Getting a good recommendation after locating the shops would probably be the best way to find an installer.

The Llumar has a lifetime transferable warranty.

Here is the Wikipedia article for window tint. I would not rely on the state legal limits specified. The lower the VLT (visible light transmission) number the darker the tint. When dima rus has a VLT of 5, that's very dark. (eek2)

I have a quote of $200-$250 for a complete tint.
The % tint did not affect the price of the tint job.
