Ticking noise - non RPM related

Greetings again.

I have had a ticking noise for a while now. It does not fluctuate when the RPM increases.

It usually goes away when I start moving (unaffected by putting the clutch in), but is soon to come back when I have it stopped and idling.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Josh

Funny how there seems to be many ticking problems around here as of late. Free bump for yours :)

Does it stop if you turn off the ignition (but keep key on)?

Fuel pump maybe?

What is the pace fo the clicking? Rapid? Slow? Loud? Soft?

Really tought to t/s this without hearing it...

it's a medium speed.. not super fast - not loud at all - i can hear it in the cabin (it's coming from under the hood), but when I open up the hood I can hardly hear it at all.

Is the fuel pump located under the hood (I thought they were underneath the cabin somewhere depending on the car.)

Haven't tried that techinique your talking about the ignition and all - i'm pretty sure it would stop w/ just the on "on" mode

You sure you don't hear your injectors? They are pretty loud, and you wouldn't notice them if you are moving at all.

Fuel pump is in the back (in the fuel tank).

I would start by removing the glove box and listening with your head in the hole. I suspect soemthing just came loose and hangs (not engine related). Loose change, etc.

I'll try that w/ the glove box. It doesn't sound like its serious.. however, it sounds mechanical - I don't think it's loose change or anything like that.

thanks for the input guys

had something similar, what kind of intake do you have? mine turned out to be a solenoid on the intake, and has since ceased to tick

I have an intake off of Ebay - Now that you mention it.. I think it started acting up around the time of the install

Alright, I have found the culprit.. like I was saying earlier - I started to notice the noise around the time that I installed the new intake.

Anyways - I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) a part of the cruise control mechanism is secured into place by the stock intake. It doesn't receive any incoming air or anything from the intake - it was just secured on it.

Well, I secured it into place on the strut bar - when it starts making the noise, I can feel it pulsating in the piece - maybe something electrical.

Maybe somehow the rubber that secured this into place on the stock intake absorbed these noises..

What do you all think?

I am having the same problem I have an ebay intake as well but my ticking didn't start when I installed it though, it started after i had my drive belts, water pump, timing belt and motor mount replaced. I can't hear the noise outside the cabin and it sounds like its comming from behind the speedometer.

I had the same problem and it ended up being the relay or ? device which snaps into the top OEM intake hose. It popped out of the intake hose clip and was resting against a metal part of the car, causing the vibration/ticking to be heard.

I clipped it back in and the noise went away.
