hey i was just driving my 07 ms3 and when i shut off my radio before shutting the car off i noticed a ticking coming from the engine.... its coming from top right in the back of the engine bay... any ideas... im taking it back to mazda sometime this week but i thought maybe you guys would have an idea.. thanks

my engine has always had a bit of a tic to it. i was told it is from the injectors. the high pressure direct injecton system has so much pressure that you can hear it !!

did mazda tell you that or did someone just tell you that... i think im just gunna take it mazda to be sure its not something else.. might as well its under warrenty ya know...

oh yea the injectors can do it, valve chatter, exhaust etc... it's just normal don't worry about it. Unless it becomes louder and changes with rpms. However since it's brand new you can 99% say it's not a knock

the man, are you sayin that the noise is normal bc its the dcs pump pump motor or not ?

and not to sound like a prick bu i dont really care how the dealer feels about me bringing it in for little stuff its my investment and since its under warrenty it should be looked at to make sure my investment isnt a bad one ya know...

you dont sound like a prick, and the dealership shouldnt feel any type of way about it. Not everyone has the knowledge to diagnose an engine, otherwise there wouldnt BE a service dept. Its their job, and they are there to help you good or bad. I wouldnt feel bad if its something I generally have a concern about.

Diagnosing an engine over the internet can be tricky, and if its something that is bothering you - then take it to the dealership. worst outcome - you were right and it is an issue (but youve caught it and thats what matters) best outcome - its nothing and they tell you its normal (and atleast you know this for future reference)

my good buddy is a BMW mechanic, they also have direct injection motors.
he says it is normal and i trust him. its just a noisy engine, at idle it has a very clear tick .
