Thrill Ride!!

BOY OH BOY, WAS THAT GREAT!!!

On the way home tonight, I made my first real high speed pass with my new P5... It was an 18 wheeler on some hills, on a curve, at night... and it was cake...

He even flashed his lights to let me know I was clear to come back over into our lane..... too late.... I was already a 1/4 mile past him by then!!

According to the power to weight ratio, my P5 should not be any faster than my '94 sentra.... "WHATEVER!!!"

OH..MY...GOD... was that cake.... My sentra was a challenge to drive on Route 585 where passing in almost suicide.... It's like... take really a good look... get a run at em... hope the engine don't blow... and cross your fingers you won't end up head on with someone....

But in my P5..... it is like... Shift, go left, go right, and bye bye.... Anyone who needs more power needs to drive a junker like my old five speed Sentra for a few years.....get good at it... then go back to their P5... Can you say Lambo-like??? I can now.

In my Sentra, taking curves at 55mph would give me white knuckles.... I can do that and use one finger in my P5 and not even pay attention to the road... I would have to be doing 95mph to even get interested.... and probably get arrested!!!!

This car just makes it too easy!!! I was thinking about some engine mods or a turbo.... but I don't like jail... and unless I'm going to Indy anytime soon, bigger tires and brakes will not be needed...

But that's just me........

Did anyone else feel this way?? Man am I glad I didn't get that Rio Cinco wagon... (which was about the same $$$$ as this P5....)

I dunno, I have a auto so I don't feel too much power and my previous car was a 94 Honda Accord Wagon with a intake and sorry but that thing feels faster when I floored it....

That's the whole thing though.... My Sentra felt faster in every way... but it wasn't... Going down the road, through the curves... even accelerating... this car makes it all so easy, that you think your going slower, but it is all a mirage...

Tell me your Accord wagon takes the corners the same too...

Dude, you're smoking crack. Although I dig my P5, it is as slow as molasses. To tell you the truth, my 92 Civic, stock, 230,000 miles, is quicker than my P5.

It is so unfortunate that Mazda didn't give this car just a little more pep. It would have been a great car.

I agree somewhat Crispy5... our cars definitely have that little "umph" that makes me so proud, even though they don't go from 0-60 in 7 seconds... still, I love it!

The torque around 3500-4500 is really nice. I find myself hauling alot more ass on the highway. There's a nice curvy part of I-45 in houston that I tear up every morning.

I was headed to a friend's house on a little twisty industrial road. The speed limit is 35, in the civic doing 50 would almost have me sliding across lanes. I did it in the P5 the other day around 60mph and I didn't realize it till i looked at the speedo...oops. :D

My parents live in a hilly part of San Antonio. I went home last weekend and hit the hills where I learned how to drive. What a blast! Who needs power when you don't have to slow down for the turns? I think the tires are a bit weak for the car, but regardless, that 67mph slolum is obvious.

Really needs 200hp or so :(

The car is fun, but not fast in any way. I guess it felt fast because you were passing an 18 wheeler on an uphill. :)

This car is very responsive and sporty. At higher speeds you feel the control that you don't have in many cars, but at lower speeds it just feels so sporty that it feels faster than it is. Plus, since it's such a high revving car you just feel like you are pushing it. When you're not driving next to anyone the car feels fast, but then just put it in normal traffic situations and you'll find yourself pushing all the gears to 4K rpm just to keep up with that mom in a mini van.

Handling, braking, steering, and gearing are the winning points here.

yeah my 1.5L civic feels faster than my P5. I go to shift gears in the civic and I'm allready speeding. In the P5 It seems as though I'm waiting for the rpms to climb before hitting speed....it's just a different feel I guess. The honda has no torque and the P5 is a torque monster (for what it is).....the P5 will smoke the tires, but the honda will outrun it...and it's 9 years old.

P5's are weak, hell even my Mazdaspeed feels weak. You really haven't driven many cars if you think the p5 is fast.

I have a twisty in hamilton on my way to school (queen street up the mountain). In my noen, the best I could get was 80kph, and it felt like it was gonna fall off the road. The P5, I got up to 110, and I am on my winters (185/65/14). This car feels fast, but at the higher end, my noen was faster (and it was 3 speed auto), this car takes longer to get there, and you can fel it. But this car holds the road, and say "May I have some more sir!!"

Passing the 18 wheelers is always fun, I just go zoooooom ast them..

Hmm, gonna go for a drive soon..

I was dissapointed on the weekend cause I could only get my little B*tch up to 189 km/h...I was racing against my friend (who had a passanger) in his 2003 Lancer (SOHC 2.0L) with cone filter as only mod. We didn't do any off the line runs but we did moving starts at 120 km/h, the 1st run he beat me by 1 car length but kept moving past 200 km/h. The second run I beat him by maybe 2 car lengths but he claims he missed shifted.

My mods include factory modified intake with K & N drop in and a mazdaspeed axleback. We were pretty even but I had myself convinced I could smoke him....That is enough to make me want to go out and buy the new 2004 Lancer or Mazda 3 or something.(bang)

If going fast in a straight line is your thing, take two things into consideration.

1) Buy a V8
2) Get RWD

and also note...

Protege5 = Turd
Lancer = Turd
Mazda3 = Turd

(lol2) Ok, while I can't quite get as enthusiastic about it as the author of this thread, I WOULD like to say that driving this little thing is actually damn fun. Sure, it's very slow, but it just doesn't seem to detract from the enjoyment of zipping around in it. There are LOTS of slow cars out there on the road, many of which are not able to achieve the fun factor of the Mazda. I've been happy with it since I purchased it for my wife.

Take your friend to the twisties, and you can say by to him as he won't keep up..

btw, I have had mine up to 200, and there was more to go, but ran out of road (had to slow down!!)

I went to the Toronto Auto show, and sat and looked @ many cars, and I must say, there is NOTHING out there I want, I am so glad I got the P5. Sure there are features I would love to have that are in other cars, but I will, in this car..

Internittent wipers (sucha b**** you are Mazda) are easy to obtain and do.
Power, well, TURBO!!!

Other than that, the only cars I liked were the Impreza, a little bit the lancer (but fugly car) and the RSX (too small though!!).

I love my P5

P5 FOREVER!!!

Yep, sounds like me and peabody have the same taste in cars.(jerkit) RSX or Impreza...my next dilema.

I know for a fact I would (spank) spank my buddies lancer in the twisties but you have to drive a long way to find any out here. I am going to hook up a new suspension this spring, turbo would be nice but then I might as well just go buy a faster car!
