Thought my tensioner pulley bearing was going bad....but NOT!!

My 08 Speed3 with a bit over 17K miles had a "click..click" from belt tensioner so thought the bearing was going but on inspection found a small rock stuck in one of the pulley grooves. Removed it and no click now. Someone else posted this as the source of his noise. Not sure why a rock on a pulley hitting a rubber belt would cause a clicking but sure seems to have been the cause. Check this possible source of noise out before replacing the tensioner.

An AutoZone part number (Dayco # 231015) mentioned in a prior post for just the tensioner pulley equivalent wasn't valid at my AutoZone store nor does it come up with a grooved pulley on their Web site BTW. Anybody got more info on this ?

the how to post with PN were accurate at my advance auto

I don't believe it's an equivalent. The pulley design and mounting washer changed. I actually tried the Dayco part - worked OK for about 5K miles, but the noise is back.
