those with spin-on filter conversion, need info ASAP ; )

guys- when you do the spin-on filter conversion, what is the total oil change volume with filter? stock, it's 5.7 qts, but i'm sure it changes with the conversion.

if i don't get a definitive answer, i'll just start at 5 and check the levels, but if anyone has any conclusive info, that'd be great!~

thanks

Should be about the same. Whether it's a cartridge or spin-on the total filter size is basically the same, unless of course you are using an oversized spin-on.

just give it 10 minutes for the oil to drain into the pan so you get an accurate idea of how much oil is actually in it.

It's really not a big deal. Drain the oil, put in 5 or so quarts, start it up and let it run for a minute or two then shut it off. Check the level and adjust from there.

heres another really noob ?? How hard is it to install the oil conversion kit? Really easy? Id like to get one.. but not sure.

super easy. BTW, it ended up taking almost exactly 6qts, i think because everything drained, even the OC...

for a normal change from here on out, it should take probably 5.7.

what are the advantages to using the external filter? I just bought the STP kit and it worked great. BTW, I put in exactly 5.7qts.

convenience, really. i can go to advance and get the mobil one filter and oil, don't have to replace o-rings, handle messy cartridges, etc.

if i HAD to, of course i could use the stock system, but the hair added convenience plus the ability to use a top of the line filter clinched the deal for me.

ken whats the dealer say about stuff like this? I know its OE products, I'm just curious. I wouldn't want them to freak out about something so simple....

my dealer doesn't really have a problem with it. techs find it annoying because they usually grab the paper insert before putting the car on the rack and then its voila one more trip to the parts counter.

Would it be wise to use an extra capacity filter or just the stocker (2.3L Tribute)...? I figure since we have turbos, a larger oil filter would help with filtering, heat, extra capacity, etc...
(huh)

My dealer said that even though the parts are a available directly from Mazda, they will void the warrranty on my car. I begged them to install it for me and what not and the answer was "absolutely not". Since my car has only 3200 miles on it, I think I might just deal with the messy cartridge oil changes. (sad2)
