This is driving me nuts

OK today when I got home from work I parked my car and left it running while I had a smoke and popped the hood just to check out my beautiful engine bay. But then I noticed something that I never have before. This annoying ticking or better yet rattling noise that would sparatically come in and out and was very noticable. and its not the normal ticking sound that the engine makes when idling. I searched all around the engine bay to try and find something maybe rattling around or loose but Nothing. This is driving me nuts does anybody have a clue what this noise could be or has anybody heard this themselves. it sounded like it was coming from behind the engine. I even got in my car and could still hear it from the inside. WTF IS IT????

No im positive it isnt my Injen thats rattling around I checked that but the sound isnt coming from that area its more from behind my engine. I can almost pinpoint the area its in but nothing specific to where I hear the sound coming from.

Try listening right by the throttle body a device that sits on top of the intercooler pipe.

thats exactly what I kept thinking it was. Sometimes when I would put pressure on it and it would go away and sometimes it wouldnt so I didnt think that was it. So do you have any clue why its doing this and how to go about gettting rid of this damn annoying rattle. thanks your help is greatly appreciated.

no. hardpipes will not get rid of the noise.

when your valves are tapping the pistons, im not saying that is what it is but it sounds like it could be i wouldnt be worried if its under warranty just bring it in and have them check it out.

It's the IDLE Control.

Uhh, the valves arent hitting the pistons.
Its the lifters ticking, and its normal. Get some MMO, add it to your car, and it will quiet it down.
If its not that, its the solenoid on the evaporative system...

I had noisy lifters on my old 626 & this is different. So now it's either idle or some solenoid ...where are you people getting these conclusions from?

you have just been given every diagnosis that it could be now take it to your dealership with this list and tell them to check it out and fix it.
