this concerns anyone with a msp

jrodhotrod I know the feeling man. Mine did the same exact thing. Was really great until I got to the end of the street when I noticed that it still stumbled. So much for the flash.

I'm hoping to find some miracle job that pays me to do nothing, and then rip the computer out of this thing and burn it in my driveway...then start from scratch like some on here have.

I always love when someone with virtualy no post count post something like this and then disapears.

I certainly hope its true for all the MSPers amoung us.

hey binary

can you kick some cans at corporate for us and make the give us a real ECU udate instead of a band-aid? :)

Yeah, I figured it's all a pipe dream...

That's why if I can afford it, I'll be getting Perfworks EMS, Internals, injectors, the whole deal... just gotta see what I can afford.

Thing is they're probably not aware of it... Unless you talk to Andr or Dan...maybe
(ma laisser faire le francais pour pas que sa gosse le monde)

how can i find out if they fixed the other problems ? the 1st flash and the clunk problem ? I'm not sure about the hesitation, seems fine. but whenever i hit a bump, it sounds like i have a big box in my trunk ... or like if the sub wasnt screwed in properly. i called once to know if they knew about the TSB and the woman said the guys working at the service department were at lunch .havent had a chance to call back since

Another Flash, we can hope. Like many, mine still hesitates after the first. I, we, can only hope for the best. If not, then drop the disco potatoe on and have fun.
Hmm mine never hesitated that badly at all even pre-flash. Now it just has smooth, constant power. I do run more boost than stock. Well now it runs up to 14 PSI stock but hey that's the way the dealer set it so who am I to complain.
I really don't have any problems with my car as far as drivability goes it is top notch. (2thumbs)

After about 4k miles post flash, the hesitation is back. Nothing like it originally was, but noticeable. I really noticed it when I was driving to and from Portland last weekend. Accelerating from 50-80mph was when it was most prominent. I'm debating on resetting the PCM and starting over.

Bremerton,

It will only temporarily solve the problem. I tried this 2 times with mine, no results. Others have solved the problem w/ Hard Pipes and upped boost... don't know how that does it, but they claim it's smoother :D

that could have been due to the stock IC..... assuming you still have it.

I understand it's just a temp fix. But clearing out the KAM and making the PCM start fresh is better then the situation I'm in right now. Honestly, I don't buy into the hardpipe theory all that much. IMO it's a fuel, timing and adaptive strategy issue.

MazdaSpeeder00, I don't believe it's a heat soak issue with the IC because for a great majority of the time, I wasn't in boost. The evening/day was very cool, with rain. Doing 70+mph and then punching it and having it stumble as the rpm/boost/speed builds is not being caused by a heat soaked IC.

Anyone know if the MSM parts (e.g., ECU) will be plug ang play with the MSP?
Probably nothing...why would you want stuff from a Mazdaspeed Miata though?

The engine uses the same turbo, right? Just more options for boltons, and more people looking to tune it...just a thought.

No, its not the same
its an IHI turbo, ours is a garret.

i BS that new flash
no way!
car number is too limited, we should kiss mazda's ass for the flash they came out with in september.......YEAH RIGHT!

no way this will come out.
the guys at mazda NA are way preocupied with MSM and MSRX-8 to even remember what MSP is.

BS claim, BS thread

Yup. I'm betting that (barring a miracle) it's going to be up to us to fix.

Well, the actual brand of turbo isn't going to make a difference. The PCM probably will not be controlling boost. I'm going to wait and see how the MSM turns out afa fuel and timing goes. If Mazda does a good job on that PCM, maybe it will be a viable alternative to our PCM. Hopefully, the MSM will not stumble and be pig-ass rich like ours.

Now before you guys start jumping my sheet, I know there will be differences between the two motors, pcm's, ect. All I'm saying is, it MAY be an alternative, not that I'm 100% sure it will work. Just something that might be worth looking into. Especially if Mazda isn't going to do any more tweaking to our PCM's.
