Thinking about a 2012 5

Are there any known issues with the drive train yet? I got a 2010 ford fusion when they came out and the trans really sucks tons of threads about it on the fusion forums. Dont want to make the same mistake again.

So far one guy has a leaking trans. There are a lot of bent wheels, too. Take your 5 on a long test drive and get it up to highway speed to see how yours feels and look out for potholes after you get it. Really too new for many folks to rack up any miles.

I had a new '06 Fusion and had a lot of issues, too. All well documented over time, but it sure was annoying. I wish the 5 had a 6-spd auto but if it did, it would most likely get the one the Fusions got which we all know is a dud.

Really? I think the 6-speed auto is one of the more annoying features of the '11 Kia Forte. I think our 5-speed auto is pretty nice, except that I have a bit of trouble convincing it to really do what I want it to do (example, I use manual-First so I can get off the gas and back on it gently instead of having to either get on it hard for a sudden tire-shredding downshift or else be content with accelerating in Second when I really want First, but if I do that after having been in Drive it makes me wait before I can shift manually into Third, very weird).

On the other hand, you know the sort of fully-mechanical 3-speed-plus-OD outdatedness I'd previously been used to for a transmission. :p

The 5 uses the exact same drivetrain as the top level 3, so unless they are having problems, you don't have much to worry about. I have almost 7000km on mine and not a single issue thus far.

I hope this helps.
