thepope540's KLDE swap / build thread

I'm going to take a bunch of pics once the wiring is sorted. Right now it looks like a bomb went off in my engine bay.

bullshark - hows the MS coming?

I got mine loosely in the car and its awesome to see that my harness works. I haven't fired the motor yet, but I checked each sensor and its great fun to watch the live data on the laptop. To that effect I bought a fun little gadget on ebay:

http://mobile.jensen.com/jensen/Jen...NAVIGATION_SYSTEM&ACTION_PRODUCT_ID=NVX3000PC

I setup some gauges in Tunerstudio to look like MSP gauges and am mounting it to the dash = sweet!

I also picked up another little toy last week. I found a deal on Craigslist that I couldn't pass up and drove 650 miles (round trip) to buy an almost complete turbo system. I would have liked to supercharge, but this will make more power and its mine. Headers are already bolted to the engine and the y pipe, turbo, and downpipe will be installed this weekend. Once I get the oil feed and drain lines sorted, oil will be going in, and I'll try for a first start and drive. I can't wait!!!!!!

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics - I keep forgetting the camera when I go over to the shop to work on the car. New turbo v. stock. Yep its big. ;)

the ms is goin slow havent worked on it too much i was soundproofing my car over my spring break. it is much quieter now plus i fixed my exhaust leak. im gonna do a little more of the ms today cuz my teachers cancelled classes for today. im not to good at soldering so i normally leave that to my friend i have to see what hes doing after school today.
on a second note from the picture of your engine i thought you had a 3cyl. i really am not used to seeing a v6 in it. plus the v6 i am used to seeing are ones in rear wheel drive cars so you can see all 6 cylinders

You should paint that thing heh. Awesome you got it in but needs some tlc heh.

Its the nastiest / dirtiest engine I've ever seen let alone worked on, but my main goal right now is to get the car up and running. This engine isn't going to stay in the car too terribly long so painting / primping aren't too important to me. The other engine is the one that'll get the beautification - but thats a job for another day.

Nah the nastiest engine would be the k8 in my wifes
car. All caked with oil ect.

Still looking forward to the functioning finished product though. Wouldn't mind doing this swap when my motor pops but having to replace/ rewire the whole car is no good for a dd heh.

do the axles from a 2l protege fit
also pope are you going to get antilag
and is it your personal shop that you work on your car at or is a friends and just wondering do you teach in high school or college

You have to use the stub axle from the mx6 donor and otherwise the stock axles work perfectly.

Not sure on that one - depends on how healthy the motor seems.

Its my parents' house. My Dad has a 100' x 30' shop behind the house with a nice 2 post lift.

I teach high school, but as of yesterday I may be getting certified to offer my classes for college credit. It would be sweet for my students and it would give me some extra income.

that sounds like a nice shop wish i had a shop like that to work in
and whats the stub axle

Stub axle is the the short piece of the passenger side axle assembly with the carrier bearing bolted to the block.

Dakota digital makes a tach signal converter. I got one last week, but have yet to play with it.

Update from last week:

Oil feed and drain lines are sorted. Manifolds are bolted up.

Tomorrow's goals (in no particular order):

Install Oil pan
Oil and tranny fluids
mount radiator (maybe)
tighten up the suspension hardware
install collector pipe, turbo, and downpipe
rough up some kind of plumbing from the turbo to the TB
mount battery
Run lots of vacuum lines
heater hoses
FIRST START

What will be left:

Power steering - I may try to tackle this tomorrow as well...
AC
Cleanup and organize the electrical
Mount the electronics - MS, Wideband, and the NVX3000PC
FMIC and all plumbing
Drive It!!!

Didn't get as much done today as I had hoped to. Turbo is in along with oil pan, oil lines, and fluids. Thats about as far as I got... Off to the Zoo with the family.

still havent gotten much of the ms done my friend that is good at soldering has a very differant weekly schedule than me. i hope that made sense cuz reading it in my head got a little confusion. well we now know im not majoring in english. anyway it looks like i'll be getting the ms finished during the summer in 2 or 3 weeks. sucks cuz it is taking up half of my livingroom table. good thing we normally use the kitchen table. anything new on your end???

Nope - Sunday is my work day. Makes for crazy weekends as I go to church on Saturday nights and have to get myself ready for the week (lesson planning and the like) at some point during the weekend. Progress is slow, but getting there. I have a couple buddies coming over to help me this weekend. We're getting an early start on Sunday so hopefully I'll at least be able to here it fire. It won't be drivable for another few weeks though. Good luck with the ms. I've been playing with mine and its super cool. Best ECU I've ever had by far. I've worked with emanage blue and ultimate and UTEC. Check out tunerstudio ms. Its leaps and bounds nicer than megatune.

This build excites me. Glad to see progress. I may be getting MS for a project, maybe you could help me with it in the future.
