thepope540's KLDE swap / build thread

I have a deposit on them so they're mine, but they are about an hour away and the seller works a lot of 12 hour days so we haven't been able to work out a time for me to get them. We were planning on Saturday morning, but it sounds like there might be some pretty crappy weather so we'll see.

If anyone ever needs wiring directions for megasquirt on an MSP I believe have them figured out.

Crappy weather is still keeping me from picking up the donors or working on the car, but a snow day today allowed me to get my MSII harness figured out. I still need to solder the correct leads on, but I won't have them until I have the donors. Lots of progress made and I was able to remove a ton of fat from the harness without losing any functionality in the gauges.

kind of thinking of doing this same thing myself when my engine pops, but ill watch how your build goes first. Not nearly at the mechanical level to do an engine swap just yet but wanna hear a turbo v6 =O.
just trying to find a stand alone that will do 6 injectors and ignition that doesn't cost $2000 heh.

Megasquirt will cost me under $300 (building it myself) or you can get one prebuilt for $400 and change.

Subn, can't wait to see the swap and hear about the end result after the 1st test ride. Good luck with the build.

Finally picked up the donors. They are two of the nastiest mx6s on the planet - but they are perfect for what I need and I was able to get another $100 bucks knocked off the price. (thumb) I'll throw some pics up of the pair in the next few days.

I also got the DB37 connector to finish my MS wiring harness today. My goal is to have such a fool-proof and quality harness that the electrical becomes the easiest part of the process - not the hardest.

I'm going to add a complete guide to MS on a KL in the next few days. I had it all figured out, but have learned a couple things that made small changes. Updates to follow.

The engine is out of the speed! It only took about 4 hours and came out very smoothly (thumb) Next is to drop the motor from one of the mx6s and then the reassembly can begin. A couple pics are in the 1st post.

did you ever do MS on the FS? i know you considered it, and if i recall you didnt get around to it. shame, really, your engineering expertise would have been nice for it.

The engine didn't last long enough for me to squirt it, but if I had it may have lasted longer. I don't know what Mazda was thinking when they tuned these cars. I'm looking forward to getting the KL up and running. I've decided that I'm going to run it NA for a few weeks before boosting to make sure everything is up to par. I don't want to kill it before it even has a chance. I see you have your AMM status. Hopefully you use yours more than I've used mine.
