The turbo spool sound?

So I have been looking at a lot of videos on Youtube and was just curious if I am correct. It seems like everyone that has either done the full Turbo Back Exhaust get not only a great sound but that hint of a turbo spool out of the exhaust, also anyone that has done a 2 piece upgrade ( like CBE and the down pipe). Is this true that with the TBE or DP and CBE combo you will get the turbo spool sound mixed with the great exhaust sound? And why are people buying the CBE and the the Down Pipe, even mixing companies. Why wouldn't they just buy the full Turbo Back Exhaust? form like Cobb or somthing? Why would someone pay for the down pipe and then the CBE when it pretty much comes out to the same cost.

I have a cpe cattless dp with the stock cbe and I can hear it once in a blue moon. It sounds awesome, burbles and growls when you let off the gas and coast in gear, very throaty at wot. I bet with a full 3" TBE that didnt have alot of restrictions you would hear the turbo alot.

thats what im thinking, did you install the CPE DP yourself? It sucks living in an apartment complex. No place to do the install myself.

The cats will definitely restrict the sound of the turbos...

I can only recall hearing the turbos spool on cars with no cats. Of course they have TBE's 99% of the time, but you could probably cut out the cats and you probably would hear it too.

well then im gonna just save my money for the COBB TBE and go with that. I like the sound of the CBE they make so the TBE should sound as good if not better and it comes with everything for the O2 sensors and an extra plug for a wideband if I wanted to install guages.

the intake side will get you more of a turbo sound anyway. If you really want more sound from it, get a SRI or just take the bottom section off your MS CAI and make it an SRI.

when i removed the resonators and muffler for straight pipe the turbo got louder. when i put in a testpipe (removed 1 cat) it got louder. With adding the intake, got louder. Adding the turbo inlet, spooled louder. Adding the ETS tmic it also got louder.

I could hear mine spool with just my mscai, then when I installed my rpmc turbo inlet it got louder, i installed a su race pipe and it didn't make it louder. Making my ms cai into a short ram wouldn't make a difference

are you sure you arent confusing the intake sucking sound as being the turbo spool sound?

with my mscai in cai mode. all i could hear was sucking. i have had it in sri mode for the last couple months and with the bov being tuned right. now i hear my turbo spool.

which is a loud high pitch scream/whistle sound

I can hear my turbo spool loud and clear at around 3500 rpm and up. And for the OP, the downpipe is not a cheap or easy install. Not to mention its probably a good idea to have a tune when running a DP. If you have an intercooler + downpipe you will be boost spiking pretty dangerously high without a tune. Just with my TMIC alone im spiking a little too high for comfort some times.

My advice is to start small and work your way up. Its your car though so just be smart about what you do.

Most of the spooling sound is pre-turbo. SRI or CAI, turbo inletpipe. Just getting rid of the stock air box opens up a lot of the turbo/BOV/BPV sounds...

catless=boost creep=bang

(uhm), man don't spread lies. I am catless as well and NO boost creep. No spike, nothing, hits 16psi and stays.

Back on subject:

I can't hear the turbo spool from the exhaust. I'm running CS downpipe and racepipe, with the stock catback.

Now I could hear it on my dsm, and it was LOUD. But I had a ported 2g manifold, and 3in turboback exhaust, and 3in O2 housing.

yeah i was trying to figure out how are cars get that sick turbo spool sound at low rpms and low speeds. Like when a public bus or a big semi truck starts up all you here is the turbo. Yes i know our turbos wont sound as loud as a bus or a truck (im not that dumb). But i do remember one night a dodge SRT4 sounded like a damn semi truck when it started moving at low speeds and low rpms. Im pretty sure he had upgraded his turbo too.
