The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

so im currently looking into the idea of an fb rx7 instead of an fc. well not instead of, but also. i think im no longer just looking for an fc but am opening my horizons to the fb as well... i could do goood things with both,,,

or do you guys think i should just finish the protege and get it where i want, pick up a bad beater, and start saving for a speed3 in the next couple years.

Big power + front wheel drive = wasted power.

But do what you want man. Don't base the decisions of your life on the opinions of others. You'll just end up un-happy. Trust me, I know.

And downloand "Truth in 24" as well. Great camera work that you'll appreciate. Peaches, did you watch it yet?

Man... talk about a blast from the past. I remember watching that in the Protege on the way to Lime Rock on the Pioneer that used to work. Awesome show to watch. Gives you a good idea of the challenges involved in a 24 hour race.

I appreciate your advice phen. I mean I know that I want a speed3 as my next real car. I drove my friends and it was a blast. But idk if is be happier skipping the rotary for now and getting one when I have a bigger budget or what :/

as a former MS3 owner and a current RWD owner I'll tell you, I won't get another FWD unless it's a beater. If you want something to drive hard, get RWD. But I agree with Phen, figure out what makes you happy regardless of what people say.

To take it a bit further, following Phen and Pablo, anything over 275 whp is wasted on a FWD car. This came from someone well known in building Mazda

I mean ideally I would get a speed 6 but I just see it more realistic to get a speed 3. Mind yoi this will be a daily, not a hard modded car like I've turned my protege into. I need something reliable. I will Do a rotary at some point which will be a full out attack on HP and speed, I just don't know when to get it...

thanks guys, finally got a decent raise after putting up with so much bulls*** on previous jobs
Congrats man!!!

Nice find Josh! Looks clean and taken care of. Obviously someone cared about the car's appearance to paint the calipers and such. But why did the clutch need replaced at 82k? Makes me worry about mine!
When I used to have a Mazda 6s with the 5spd, I had to replace the clutch at 120k miles. Before replacing in, it still had the factory clutch. I remember seeing a thread on one of the Mazda 6 forums talking about how long everyone's stock clutch lasted. A lot of people said they had to replace theirs around 70k miles. But then there were also a lot of people that had to change it above 100k miles. So I guess it just depends on whether or not the previous owner(s) babied the clutch, or let their wives burn it up haha.

Ya, the MS3 is wrong wheel drive...but for a daily driver, it's A LOT of fun. And on the track with the proper tires, it's crazy fast lol.

I do agree, you shouldn't really base your life decisions on what others think.

thanks for the input. yes its a DD

the rx7 will be a bridgeported 10k rpm car by the end. not sure if i wanna stay na or go turbo though.

the protege will be the same thing to me as evans p5 is to him. a never ending project, and fun summer car. i never plan on selling this car. theres too much of myself in it. and its been a project between me and my dad, with too many late nights wrenching. if i ever got rid of this car, i might as well sell my soul. the rx7 will always be an option and the speed3 will always be lined up, but when it comes down to it, id take my rusting, slow, dented protege over anything else.

Choose wisely when looking at ports and FI or N/A. They don't always play well together.

ill deffinitely keep htat in mind. from what i read bridgeport is good for na and monster port is good for turbo

Yeah, it goes along with the same idea of piston engine cars. Parts bought for an N/A build usually aren't the ones that you want to use for a boosted build. Normally, polar opposites. So... don't do a full N/A build if you have even the slightest thoughts of boosting it down the road.

Fantastic film. The 24 Hours of Le Mans has always been my favorite race of the year and this movie solidified that. I'd watch a documentary like this on every Le Mans race.

awesome! (thumb) i have someone that can understands my aggravations then hahaha

my dad convinced me outta an fb i think, he worked at mazda and got to drive a lot of their cars at the track including the rx7 tII and the 323gtx among many others and though im not sure if he had driven an fb, he said they were underpowered, live rear axled, no abs, carbed, and generally not impressive :/ i really like the way they look, the price, and the fact that they weight 2300 lbs with an interior... idk. maybe ill skip the rotary for now and save for the speed3 which will be my daily. i was really disappointed to hear those things about the fb...
Do you want something RWD and obviously Mazda? Why has no one suggested a Miata? lol... I know it's slow but you can make them faster just like anything else... and the NA's are cheap.

I thought about suggesting a Miata but for some reason I think that AJ wanted to go that route for a while and changed his mind?

Because the moment you suggest a Miata, someone will get their panties in a tiff and say something about how "Oh, all you Miata owners think its the best car out there..." blah blah blah. Happens all over this forum.
