The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I always get the most s*** done while at the bar. No one bothers me. After two beers, I'm motivated to get the work done as best I can so that I can have more beer. It works well for me.

i swear i go to thechive like once every 20-30 mins hoping something new is up, but its not haha

I used to be the same way. I haven't been on there in a while though. I'm afraid if I got back I'll instantly love 3-4 hours of my life looking at all the posts I missed lol

I can work from home too, but I don't like to because I never get anything done. Too many distractions, but I tend to do work throughout the entire day.

I definitely get more work done when I'm at the office. But it's an 80 mile round trip drive so I'll gladly stay home to avoid that especially in the winter. I can usually motivate myself pretty well especially when I have a long list of active projects. Today, I have only 2 projects so I'm more willing to put them off until Monday.

its only cause i dont have alot of work to do and am looking for things/ways to waste time to make the day go by faster haha

I always have work to do but since I'm the newest developer I get stuck with a lot of the crappy projects that I don't want to do. :D

I was supposed to go help a friend put brakes on his car today, but our furnace decided to take a dump last night so I had to stick around for the new one. It's now in and works great (it should with what it cost). Let me just say that heat is not overrated!

Booo, that sucks.

So, if you guys want to read some fun stuff, some guys from my BMW group started a blog "after a night of a few too many beers, and most likely stories as well."

Some interesting car insights from two car geeks, and most of it isn't too biased. I will quote an excerpt.

One of my favorite endangered species is the General Motors A-body from the early 1980s through the middle 1990s. These cars are hardly plentiful, and I’m not as big a fan of the Chevrolet Celebrities and Buick Regals I most often spot. However, occasionally I run across a Pontiac 6000, and I consider myself lucky if it’s an uprated SE or STE model.

The 6000SE/STE was the car designed to compete with BMW during the height of the “We Build Excitement” Yuppie love-fest known as the 1980s. A high-output (relatively speaking) 2.8-liter or 3.1-liter V6 motivated the front wheels. Manual transmissions were a little-known special-order item. Tacked-on body kits, alloy wheels (not actually directional, but looking the part) wrapped with Goodyear Eagle GT+4 meats and digital dashboards ensured that Pontiac would always come in third or fourth to BMW’s numero uno status in a Car and Driver comparison test.

When my parents had an Audi 5000S with a wheezy 110-horsepower five-banger, my friend Reed’s parents had a 6000SE station wagon that would roast those Goodyears all day long. It didn’t have the digital dashboard or the steering-wheel buttons, but it did have a center console and bucket seats — flat, horrible, wobbly bucket seats with less bolstering than a sidewalk.

I wish I could slap people sometimes...I know I was a noob and still am in many regards and asked dumb questions but I'd like to think I at least thought some of my questions through before typing them and didn't have dumb ideas all together like instead of doing a big job like a fmic i tried to make my own replacement pipes for the stock ic with out doing any sort of research first

/end rant

interesting on the Pontiac bit. My aunt worked for gm and raved about the bonni's for the early to mid 90's. v6 with a super charger

But I'm sure that would involve not putting a nav system, and the other $10k in options that everyone offers now.

Give me a car that has a radio, power windows, power locks, and nothing else. Offer it for the lowest price possible and make sure it is fun to drive. Who drives a fast/fun/sporty car and needs a navigation system to figure out where they are going? There are luxury brands for that (BMW, Mercedes, etc...)!

That is probably what I like most about my car. No frills. I love older STis because of the bad plastic interiors. They are simple.

Edit: Yes, happy weekend! I am off this weekend and already drinking...

I'm exactly the opposite when it comes to street cars. I want a car that does all the menial mundane tasks of driving for me (other than shifting). After I drive my wife's 6 for a few days I get completely annoyed that I have to take a key out of my pocket to get into and start my car, I have to turn on my own windshield wipers, I have to adjust the heater or air conditioning, I have to put my navigation system up or use my phone when I want to get somewhere new, I can't play music from my phone through bluetooth, my driver seat doesn't automatically change from my wife's settings to mine based on which key I have in my pocket, and my rear view mirrors don't automatically tint. None of that stuff would take away from my enjoyment of fast/fun/sporty car.

I feel that way too. My first car had absolutely zero options and I love technology so I'm perfectly fine with as many options as I can get. :D

I like simple too. Protege is simple.Windows locks and radio. all i need. The rest is unnecessary. Takes away some sense of control of your cehicle

new radio with aux input, problem solved. They might even have them with bluetooth, I've never looked into it.
