Um, yes? I don't know about paint chipping off, though.
2016 Ford Explorer looks nice. Can be has w/ the 2.3 ecoboost and tow 3000 lbs.

3k towing is weak for that size SUV.
Personal experience with the Flex. After the first winter it has about a million small chips in the paint on the front of the car. No doubt from following too closely when there's salt/gravel on the road. Fortunately nothing is down to the metal but it still looks bad. I've made the same winter trips in my wife's Jetta (twice) and my 2 (once) and both of them look fine.

V6s will tow 2.5 tons.
I'm sure the 3.5 ecoboost can do much more.
I put a 3M invisible bra on the truck, it should protect the truck form stone and salt digs. I had one put on the 07 speed3 and it looked great after 98K when I sold it.
If I ever get the front end touched up it'll be the first thing I do.I put a 3M invisible bra on the truck, it should protect the truck form stone and salt digs. I had one put on the 07 speed3 and it looked great after 98K when I sold it.
Blue, I forget what Ford calls it.Interesting. I've got some rock chips but nothing worse than what I've seen in other cars. You have black right? Maybe that amplifies it?
Make sure you read up on the tow ratings for those vehicles. There's probably lots of restrictions and stipulations. The Flex will tow 4500 lb but that's only with the factory tow package and a weight distributing hitch. When the RX-7 is done the next big purchase is an aluminum trailer in the 1000-1200 lb range. That plus the RX-7 should give me an easy 1000 lb wiggle room for other stuff.
EDIT: Also, the new Explorer is weak. Ever since it went to a car chassis and a transverse engine it lost any appeal to me. Fortunately Toyota has gone the opposite direction with their 4-Runner and the new one's look mean as hell.
