The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

That is why I say, you can have all of the HP you want, if you do not have the correct suspension set up, it is all for naught! A look at a lot of the MS3, Focus ST and the STR-4 guys and first thought is powe! Them they go and track their cars and wonder why they get thier asses handed to them by a Miata! All power and no handling.......I never understood that, still to this day the same mentality exists.

And I was definitely pushing the car, I know how to do that at least.

ummm no, your car can go way faster as it is, stock.

I was trying to push mine, except I couldn't pass you because:

1. I couldn't see your hand signal.

2. You didn't lift on the straights, so I couldn't catch you.

3. We weren't allowed to pass on corners.

With a skilled driver in a stock Miata and a stock MS3 on track, which would be faster? I'm thinking it has to do with the type of track with the Miata being faster sometimes and the MS3 being faster other times. Now if you are trying to move up the racing echelons, a Miata would be a better choice. But just for going out and having fun, a weekend warrior, either car would be fine. It's all personal preference. No doubt the mx5 is 'the most raced'.

Pablo, I already know I can improve my racing line. And you were behind me for at most one lap, I don't even think it was a full lap. I let you by when I saw a chance.

I'm not talking about car versus car, I don't care about that. You were defending the MS3 saying that you weren't getting understeer which I say is ridiculous and you don't know what understeer is, or that you weren't pushing the car hard enough.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and saying that you weren't pushing hard enough.

Patrick, what Will and the others have is more seat time, which is why they can run circles around you! One of the things I've learned from some of the best drivers is that better drivers started out in momentum cars, not high HP cars. If you go to track days, the high HP guys have trouble with the low HP cars, because they know they have to keep the car going in order to be competitive. HP can cover up mistakes and more.......I had a guy that had a GTR and he was running with me @ PIR and he could only pull on the front straight, I caught him by turn 2 and went around him a couple of times...he was confounded how I I kept lapping him......if you have a plan stick to it, do not keep changing cars without a purpose or direction. Learn how to drive what you have, hell track the Neon. I have a friend, Missy Davis that competes in wheel to wheel in NASA PTF, she runs a Neon....I have watched her grow from auto-x, to HPDE's , to TT's and now wheel to wheel.....all with one car, her Neon.......

Mazda 2 FTW! That's why I wanted one, just wouldn't fit with a growing family.

I was pushing the car in a non-optimal line that allowed me to accelerate without having terrible oversteer. I don't know how else to explain it, I was not going slow and I was not taking an optimal line. But I was pushing the car, the tires were at the limit of grip. Next time I will have an instructor with me and improve the line as well as lap times.

^all of this!
If you want a car with a bunch of power for the track, take it to the strip.

I wonder what kind of front sway bar is on the I-Moto speed3's? Do you think they ever tried a non speed3 front bar in conjunction with the huge rear bar they have? I'm just spitballin here.

I read that somewhere then I was told by someone

Could be a light minor one just to hold the endlinks and give some rigidity

I dunno. I bought my ms3 with the intention of having a fun car that I could tinker with.

It won't be touching a track until it's paid off.
Autox? I do it for fun... Not competition.

Am I scared to blow it up? Sometimes... But you gotta pay to play, right?

Understeer? Of course, it's fwd! Although I love this ridiculous rsb in the snow.

Everyone has their personal preferences, can't we all just get along!? ;)

PS - I drove with my 32mm fsb disconnected through some twisty roads once. s*** was scary. Then again, my driver mod isn't the best lol

We are getting along...........and not sure about the front bar on the MS3 for I moto, but they run a 50mm RSB....with Anze Suspension...I will check with Glenn or Tom regarding the front bar.....

I'm fairly certain that oversteer was not your problem so I'm going to assume you mean understeer... Like I said before slow is a relative term. I'm not saying you were slow, I'm just saying that if you weren't having understeer you weren't pushing the car. That is it, nothing more, nothing less.

You may have been pushing the car to the limits of your ability, but you were well within the limits of the ability of the car, tires, etc.

I told you that no FSB would work well for an autocross since it's a much tighter course. I'd leave it hooked up for road racing.
