are the mazda protege ignition coils guaranteed to go bad early? Please answer this poll so that I can find out if a remedy may indeed be a remedy or if it will delay the inevitable!

Electrically? No.

Mechanically, sort of. The little rubber boot on the bottom that goes over the top of the spark plug does have a tendency to crack and fall off. If it does fail that way clean the rubber bits out the hole and the coil pack will still work, at least long enough to obtain a replacement.

Went out at about 136K and I got the cheapos from Rockauto. I voted the 100K-150K though.


No problems since.

I've had no problems. The only thing i had a problem with was with my hiboost kit and breaking the coilpack with the intake pipe.
