This leans me to not get a turbo once again. These problems are starting to become too numerous.

Dont let our problems make you think that going turbo is or not a good idea.

Spool Turbo is closed, so, enough said.

If I were you, I would go to Flyin Miata they are in the works on making it carb legal!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FM was #1 in my list when I was going turbo, until Spool came out with his kit and a dyno of 210whp @ 7psi..and you know how my face looked like ( )

But looks like, its not true, I think im puting down around 160whp @ 7psi.

I will dyno it sooner or later just to be sure.

I still love my turbo, im in love with my car!!!!!!!!! and spanking some asses on the streets. Soon I will be buying some exterior stuff again. I even take videos of my car check-it-out:

Sorry to hear that Ghost. Not to flame or nothing, but that is one of the reasons for me getting the HiBoost kit. Its not a one-off kit, its more of a OEM type kit. I really tried for people to understand this and the reason I was such a high promoter of it. I hate to see this type of problems after all you are spending a big amount of money. Hopefully you will get your problem resolved and keep enjoying your P5.

The only problems on the HiBoost kit seem to be from programing, and cold starts in cold weather since they program them on warmer weather.

My concerns have always been with the welds. Master welders are few and not cheap. Anyone can weld, hell I can TIG weld, I do some at work, but it seems that the weakness in this custom kits are the welds. I would be really upset if my welds keep coming undone. That is just poor craftsmanship. The problems come when the welder is 2,000 miles away. That is why I wouldnt recomend a custom kit like this for mailorders, I would recomned a reputable tuner in your area that can deal with this mishaps.

I applaud Spool for his pioneering of the turbo kits for the 3rd Gen, and hopefully his customers will continue to enjoy his kits, meanwhile, Hiboost is the standard in Protege kits.

I dont have weld issues or whatever. Only issues I have is just what it takes to have a modified car.

I cracked 2 pistons but it was an overboost: joep MBC fault!

Ghost was complaining to me about his car being so loud because of the atmospheric dumptube (which was standard on the spool kit) So I offered him that he could drive to our shop and I would weld up his dumptube (we normally do not perform this procedure) but out of the kindness of my heart I told Mike "come on right up and we will take care of you"

Well the day that ghost was supposed to come my welder could not make it. Ghost knew this.......and I told him that I would be welding and warned him of my crappy welding skills. I told him it was going to be ghetto. I am not a welder by any means. Actually I did not want to weld the dumptube up because I did not feel very comfortable, but Ghost insisted that I did. So I showed up to work on my day off and welded the dumptube back into his exhaust. It took me about 4 hours and $90 worth of stainless.

I charged him nothing for the material or my time since I knew that it may not hold up and I just wanted to help him out.

It was ghettofied to the point where we had to use even some JB weld. Again people I AM A BAD WELDER.....I never acted as if I were a good one. On top of this I migged the stainless steel instead of tig welding it because I do not have the ability/skills to tig stainless (this is the method it should have been performned in) And Ghost knew this. Also Ghost was there the whole time with me and helped me out. It was not like he dropped off the car or anything. He witnessed everything I did to the car and even reccommended the use of JB weld

AND!

I sold him the kit stage 3 for around $2000!!!
He got it basically for free and I included a host of free items. I bended over backwards for him and Ghost comes on here and publicly bashes and harrases me for something that was not my fault.


Alot of times ghost has gotten himself into trouble with other members and such because of his impulsiveness and lack of tact.

I am really not impressed with you Mike and very dissapointed. I even had numerous conversations with you regarding the forums and all the political problems you were having. Remember I said you just need to be more political and have some tact since you are the owner/leader of a prominent mazda protege club. Sometimes your personality and and they way you handle things is explosive and uncontrolled. You really need to re-evaluate your actions. You are going to keep on getting yourself in trouble with this attitude.

I feel that I should have never even helped you now. I have never bent of backwards for a customer like Ghost and he has given menothing but problems.

the one thing i'm starting to appreciate is that this is all custom work and if you go into this expecting "factory" type drivability, you're gonna be disapointed. i haven't heard of anyone not having some sort of problems with custom setups! gosh, even factory vehicles can be dogs and crap out on you! this won't deter me but i'll lower my expectations a bit.

Guys, dont let these problems that are happening to me keep you from getting into FI. This is a problem from a person, not the kit. The kit works awsome, and I love it. Its just little things like this should not happen on a correctly installed, good quality kit.

well, terry, i am glad you told your side, now maybe other members will know the both sides, instead of jumping the gun with the anti-spool jargon.

and to you mike, if you knew he was a bad welder, and you witnessed it, and even helped to "ghettofy" your ride...you should have seen this coming.

the only other thing i can say is that it basically comes with the hobby, when people modify their cars, things go wrong. look at it as a way to add another modification, the awr radiator. and for those wondering, yes, it should work with the hi-boost kit too.

I'm sorry to hear of the problems. For everyone. But s*** happens. . .kind of paints a different picture to hear both sides of the story. . .but ghost you WERE completely out of line with your first comments. . .I'm sure you were just angry (as you should be), but the forum isn't for this crap (although it usually seems to be like this).

To Terry's points. . .the reason they went out of business is because of people whining and complaining like this. . .Terry hates to see people unhappy and as a result, he gave away more than he should have (free time and parts). Why am I pissed??

Im pissed due to the quality and the things that have happened to me since I installed this kit. I am not the only on e that has has problems, but Im the only one that will openly talk about them. Now that I know that you still roam the forums, ill bring this straight to you. These are the folowing problems I have had with your kit since Ive gotton it. $2000??????? Its was more like 2400, and then I have spent around1500 more getting the kit to work right and still I am having to spend more just to run it. Now the car is not even running at all, it has happened more than 4 times, and this was the last straw! Let me refresh you on things that I have had to do just to get things to work. I will list them one by one. This has nothing to do with the kit(it was a complete kit) but its due to the craftsmanship of it.

1. redo the threads of the manifold (whatever chroming job got all into the treads and ruined them)
2. remachine the manifold (exhaust leak that I couldnt even turn on the AC untill I was moving)
3. recut the block that extended the water inlet for the engine.
4.buy another BOV( when you had promiced me a type r with the kit)
there is about $500 more( thank god I have good connections here or I would have paid full price)

Now the problems that I will have to fix in the near future:
1. New radiator
2. New primary o2 sensor( burned the hell up due to the location of the bung ( too close to the turbo, they are not made to wiidthstand that high heat)
3.reopen the exhaust ( to take out the pieces of weld that rattle like there is no tomorow, and sound like the car is falling apart)
4.reweld the dumptube( so it doent cost me another radiator in the future).

I know some of these things you knew about. But Terry you could have been a little helpfull to me. I was new to all this FI stuff and you knew it. The kit changed and changed all the way to when I got it. When I asked you that If I could drive up there to get some of the things fixed you told me "ok mike comon this weekend" I told you about two weeks in advance. You said you couldnt do it that weekend due to some dyno event or something like that. I said ok(even thogh it was the day before I had to go up there). Then I finaly drove 4 1/2 hours to your shop( and you knew I was going to be there). You showed up about a hour late, and then you told me that your welder wasnt going to be there. That he had to go to a drifting contest. A drifting contest???

So, my only choice was to either go back home(who knows when I could have come back), or have you weld the dumptube. What would you have done?? You went out of buisness three weeks later.

I never got a" hey Mike here is my cell so you can reach me if you have problems" or " hey mike dont worry Ill get one welded correctly and sent to you". Nope, I got " ummmm sorry man, it shouldnt cost more than $200 to fix at a muffler shop".

Now thats just some of it. I dont really want to go over anymore of my things. I said what I said because of not just me, but what you put my club members through. I am definately not going into that because it doesnt involve me directly, and if they can talk for themselves. Yes, my members are good people. Yes, I am a person that expresses my beliefs openly. But after all the flack that I got from this forum defending you and your company. And openly accepting you into our family, I would have expected a little more help and responability.

you gave that money to our north pres, so did everyone up north.
I just got the cash from her for the decals last week. This was delegated to other officers in the club, but I will accept the blame for it. Also, you never came to me and asked where it was. I would have sent it your $ back to you and got your decal for free.
Now I did get you your shirt like I promiced you. So if youd like the $5.50 that you paid amber let me know. Your decals for up north will be shipping this week.

And by the way, I know whay you were closing your doors. You dont have to tell me again. Remember, I was thinking about buying the company before I saw all the people you owed money to, and I thought it twice.

Terry your a good guy, your a verry good friend. But, thats why Im pissed.
