The Endless Mirror Issue

I did a search and there are many posts on the issue of mirrors not closing. My Signature is now six years old and I have already replaced the driver side mirror for this reason. However it too now suffers the same problem. I wonder if there has ever been a definitive fix.

Do you actually need the mirrors to fold in every time you turn the car off?
Personally, I turned off the auto-fold feature and only fold them in manually (on the door switch) when I need to. 5 1/2 years no issues.

That's my only advice, if you don't need them to fold every time.

I picked up my 2021 GT used, almost right away one of the mirrors stopped folding in. Got them to replace both under warranty then immediately turned that function off. Also now only fold in manually from the switch when I want them closed. Seems like it's just a matter of time till they stop working if you have them open and close every time you lock the car.

Well I find it handy for the walk away locking as you can see by the mirrors the car is locked. That feature by the way is imperfect because if I get out of the car, open the rear door to get something, close it and and walk away towards the rear the car doesn't lock so the mirrors tell me. I think it is a very useful feature especially here in Colombia where parking spaces at malls etc. are tight having been designed for the smaller cars prevalent in the 80s and 90s.
