It does. And you're spot on, I thought it was terrible. Not very secure, and when the phone mount is mounted, blocks some of the AC vent as well. Cheap and crappy all around.
So, I moved on to the ProFit.

That one is a better position for the driver's view... but positions the phone so far away (at least for me), it was less than optimal. It also blocks that vent for the passenger. And finally, their fit isn't great. The stock trim is pretty tight to the dash panel, and their mount pushes the trim out to the point it looks really bad.
The iPhone holder from Pro Fit is a joke. They took the 3GS mount, changed the dinky little insulating bits. The little bits of insulating material that make it fit in the holder come unglued easily, and it's obvious they didn't want to change the mold for the 4. As a result, the whole package is, again, pure crap.
If you want to try the Pro Fit, let me know, I'll send it to you. It's collecting dust right now.
I mocked up a piece of plastic to make a mount that positions it to the right of the shifter, up close to the center stack. Just haven't had the opportunity to pull the console apart and figure out how to mount it. It's trivial to make a 'mount' -- the hard part is fastening it securely. The plastic trim just to the right of the shifter console pops out pretty easy, and looks like a good place to fabricate in a mount.
