The Chiketkd/ Katya4me/ Moxnix G-Stock MSP thread

Top two drivers have been in their cars for at least 1 season (if not longer). We need more seat time in "The Spicey" before we'll be able to drive it to its full potential.

Saturday's course was mostly speed-maintenance, Sunday's had a couple "power zones". Shawn and I should have been closer to McCool on Saturday. There was almost no way we could have matched his time on Sunday. My $0.02...

How does the car feel? I don't have much experience in "stock" cars, but figured I would ask since there is still a lot of stuff that can be "adjusted". There used to be a very fast stock MP3 in the Atlanta region who's driver may still lurk around here. I was quite surprised to hear some of his alignment specs. I didn't know you guys were headed to Dixie...what a long drive.

Oh yea...McGrain is going to be a frequent sight in GS this season. It will be a great class to keep an eye on with several chassis looking racey.

Wayne (apexlater) does occasionally lurk here. I'll point him this way :)

IIRC Wayne was running a lot of toe out in the rear (1/2 inch?). I have not felt the need for that much toe to get the car to do what I want.

Some video from the weekend.

Chike Saturday - 54.516

Shawn Saturday - 53.956

Chike Sunday - 51.290

Shawn Sunday - 52.273

I do suppose that was me huh. :D I ran the same wheels but the Avon TechRa in 225-45-17 front and rear since there weren't any really good choices in the V710s or HoHos back then. I ran the car stock except for a drop-in filter, Schrothe harness and alignment.

You can rotate the front strut tops, legally as noted in the factory manual, for a tad more negative camber and caster, and loosen up the suspension and squeeze out ALMOST a degree of negative camber in the front. The rear I got as much of the negative camber out as possible.

I think I ran a touch of toe-out in the front and 1/2" total toe out in the rear (I think that was pretty close to maxed out). I felt like the Tokicos did a pretty good job, but I think I would have tried a smaller front swaybar to reduce some of the wheelspin. I bet running the staggered tires helps alot.

The MP3 transitioned beautifully, as I'm sure the MSP does too even with the added nose weight. I'm guessing tires will be expensive with such little camber in the front, so that just means you guys need to win some Tours and Pros for free tires. :D

We are hoping the V710's will cut down on the tire bill and Kumho pays down to third place.

Strut tops have been in the rotated position since I first aligned the car back when I got it. Hoping to stick with the stock sway bar since it is a pain to change out (done it on the P5 twice).

I'd at least try it. It is a huge pain though, but we had nothing but wheelspin w/ the stock bar when I was running JA's car.

Need to do a few more events with the stock bar before making a decision on that. We had some wheelspin issues at dixie but I am not sure how much of that I can solve by remembering that I am driving a car that needs more than 2 positions on the throttle petal.

Agreed. IMHO it's not worth changing the FSB until we have the better shocks on the car. Only wheelspin issues I had all weekend was coming out of the tight turn-around.

As an update, the next national events on our schedule are:
  • Atlanta NT (May 7-8th)
  • Delaware NT (June 4-5th)
We have a number of local DC events coming up in the interim, and we'll be sure to post pics & video afterwards.

Well, it's been a little while since any of us updated this thread...

Got my first contingency award (ever!) in the mail about 2 weeks ago for my 3rd place finish at the Dixie NT. $150 in Kumho bucks which will go towards buying additional tires for the MSP. Hopefully things will go well for Shawn and myself at the Atlanta NT in ~3 weeks.

Our first event in the car after the Dixie NT will be this Sunday @ Fedex. We run in the 2nd heat (things just got better) and there have been no changes made to the car. Might play around with tire pressures a little more to see if we can get some more bite up front. Looking forward to driving "Teh Spicy" again....

Video's from this weekend.

Chike (Second in GS, 33rd in PAX)

Katie (First in Ladies, 73rd in PAX)
Her best run but the datalogger did not work.

Her best run with the datalogger.

I did quite terrible out there yesterday and wound up 8th/13! in ST. I spun, coned, or lost it sideways on every single run. It seemed like a power course to me, but I had fun and was glad to be back at WDCR events. I'm definitely ready for a new autocross car to replace my tired and slow Bimmer.

I only saw the 2nd half of afternoon session when I was working, but the Miata/MX5s in STR looked nice and the John's STS RX7 looked awesome. From your times and vids, you guys did really well.

Thanks for posting the vids Shawn. Katie congrats on the win in the Ladies class. Since I was able to leave so early, I was able to get back home early enough to play a 2 hour tennis match that afternoon.

Decent event for me and I'm glad I got faster on each run. However, I knew that I left time out there when I came in on my last run and Shawn's video confirms it. The lower tire pressures felt fine (35F/40R), but it's been so long since we ran the car that it's hard to say if it's better or not. (dunno)

Looking forward to the Atlanta NT. Shawn and I should hopefully have the adjustable front shocks on by then... Hopefully, we can both run closer to McCool than we did at Dixie. (hi)

Shawn and I will be leaving early for Atlanta on Friday morning. Hoping to get down there around 2 o'clock-ish to get a few practice runs in.

Spending the weekend with Amaff's family. Looking forward to checking out his DP miata in person! (evil)

You'll be able to see it... in the garage. I won't be there, and my co-driver had something come up rather last minute, so it won't be getting any action, unfortunately. Let me PM you and Shawn my info so you guys have it.

Very tough Day 1 at the Atlanta NT. Class currently sits as follows:

1. Peele 41.653
2. Jacobs 41.807
3. McCool 41.899
4. Burns 42.263
5. Roberts 42.582
6. Dellimore 42.769
7. Towns 43.673

So Shawn sits a little under 1 second back from 1st, while I'm just over 1 second back.

Fingers crossed for a stronger showing on Day 2! (hi)

Well, Day 2 in Atlanta was just as tough and Shawn and I couldn't gain any ground on the front runners (final class order remained unchanged). Also, after 2 days of driving, 56/1000ths of second separated Shawn and I, with Shawn edging me out.

I'm sure Shawn will have the videos of our fastest runs from each day up later this week. Our next event in the car will be a DC region event this coming Sunday @ Fedex.

Videos from the Atlanta NT:

Shawn Saturday - 42.582

Chike Saturday - 42.769

Shawn Sunday - 41.501

Chike Sunday - 41.370
