The Car So Nice We Had To Buy It Twice!

2008 Mazda 5
So what happened was...
We bought a used 2008 M5 Mica Red Touring. Our First Mazda. This car is a blast. Driving is fun and the room is great. Form/function in one package.

So on August 4th it's 6am and I'm driving to work. I'm on the parkway and suddenly I start seeing double. I have no idea how I got to within 4 blocks from my house before hitting a utility pole. Much of it blackouts. I had driven 6 miles. The front left wheel sheared off. It turned out that when I reached into the medicine chest for my thyroid medication, I mistakenly took an old prescription sleeping aid. 2 of them. Nobody hurt. Slight bruise to my front left shoulder. I am a VERY blessed man.

We were heartbroken. Our insurance company came through like champs and paid us more than we'd paid for the car. We trolled the internet and found the EXACT same car at the Dahl dealership in LaCrosse WI. (We live in lower Westchester NY) (Kyle Dulek was our salesman - kind and helpful guy) I arranged for the shipping, etc.

Took delivery 2 weeks ago. Even nicer than the first.

We do love us some Mazda 5's.

That is a SCARY story. Glad it was only the car that was totaled.

I think this just reminds us that even beloved cars can always be replaced... people can't.

It kinda reminds me of why there are many reasons that doctors tell you to discard unused medications. I'm curious why you didn't just stop the car when you started seeing double!?!?!?!?! I'm also curious whether the insurance company or law enforcement bothered to ask to see what kind of medication it was to confirm whether or not it was a DUI accident (which it obviously was). Glad to hear you're OK, but that sounds like seriously stupid mistake to me. Sorry to be so blunt. Hope you learned from it.

I guess he wants the insurance company to take away your settlement and the police to arrest your for DUI. Gotta love the sympathy...

Actually I just think it's strange that someone would see double and not pull over, drive until they total their car, and then be paid more than their car's worth to go buy another one. There's no doubt in my mind that if I did the same thing that I would owe the value of the totaled car and have no car to my name, have a DUI on my record, and probably be also paying for destroyed city property. It just makes no sense. Additionally, if it's true, it's insurance fraud. Plain and simple.

But, since in America we just screw the hell out of every available entity and force our neighbors to pay for it... Here's to you bud!! Good job grabbing the wrong medication (good thing it wasn't deadly), good job making it home ( and possibly killing innocent people), good job apparently lying to get the insurance company to cover your foolishness, and congratulations to everyone who paid for it!(lick)

OK guys, good comments and points made, let's keep it factual.

Just glad everybody made it all right (you and 3rd parties) yet something is true: you could have killed yourself or somebody on that condition, I would not have liked being around your route with my family that day (nailbyt)

But allrighty, I hope the comments are taken in the good sense (dunno), let's move on

Thanks

Glad to hear you're OK...

After reading all your comments this one seems a bit out of character for you.
It is fine to have your opinion about insurance fraud, stupid decisions and endangering the public (I probably would agree in perhaps a smaller degree), but it doesn't appear that you seem that genuine is knowing that he is OK.

Mistake or not, we all make them. I once didn't buckle my daughter all they way in. The seat belt appeared in but was pretty much useless. I drove on the freeway for 40 minutes to my destination and then found out the seat belt wasn't secure. Nothing happened but in retrospect I was very stupid for not checking and making sure it was clicked. I guess I could have been arrested for child endangerment, etc.

I don't see how its fraud unless he lied onthe police report. He may not of known at the time that he took the wrong meds. We don't know it was never stated other then he took the wrong meds. I would assume he didn't know becuase who in the right mind would take the wrong meds!

We have insurance because s*** happens! People make mistakes!

ok, he accidentally took the wrong pills... and wasnt exactly in the right state of mind because of it. how would you expect him to make rational decisions like that! im just happy that everyone is ok and that everything worked out.

Glad others finally chimed in and showed a bit of compassion for someone in an accident.
Everybody makes mistakes.
