So everybody pretty much knows that for the ms3 the big 3 are intake, exhaust, and some kind of intercooler. Well my questions is specifically for the people with the big 3, pertaining to mpg. I just went throught my first full tank with my set up and i'm getting about 21 mpg...most of my driving is 75% highway. which makes me gringe at what it is in the city. with out the intercooler i was getting about 25 mpg...and the stupid fuel computer was way off it was telling me i was getting 25mpg on this tank. anyways i would like to know how everybody is fairing with the this date is a heavily modded ms3

I average 27mpg (my calculations) with those mods. My wheels are 18lbs though. Yes, that made a slight difference.
My car is also lowered. That may have a slight affect.

My driving is 70% commuting, 25% in town driving with assorted jackassery, and 15% to and from my math tutor's house.

LOL. how much are you paying your math tutor?!

I'd have to say that the "Big 3" means different things to different cars. And in the world of car audio, it means something else altogether (it means the major grounds of the car redone.) For our cars, I'd put the top 3 things to change as these:

1. Intake, either CAI or SRI
2. Downpipe/midpipe or Turbo-back setup. CBE doesn't change much.
3. Engine management, like CP-E standback.

The intercooler change would be a decent 4th or 5th thing to change, and the a new mechanical fuel pump upgrade would be up there in the 4th or 5th range, too.

referring the what bolt ons it takes to get to fuel cut, with out ems. this isn't what i'm on here.. i'm trying to find out what people are getting for mpg with major mods done. and i've got the txs dp, test pipe custom fmic, cobb sri

The standback is CHEAP...probably would pay for itself in mileage alone in just a year or so...nevermind the 100's of other things it can do.

damn... I know part of our nature is to always want more but... aren't these cars fast enough stock? once I finally get mine... I'm thinkin the only mod I'll put on is a CAI. Sure, it'll add a few ponies but I mainly like the looks and sound of it. As for a new ECU, IC and exhaust... those made sense for the MSP since it was engineered by a bunch of speds. This car though... yeah, it'll make a difference but... is it really worth it?

Yeah.

No wait, allow me to restate that... HELL YEAH!

Of course, I haven't touched the performance side yet myself...when I do, I'm going Cobb SRI, CP-E Standback, and Downpipe/Catted mid-pipe.

Everything is worth it man. For sure. I think thats the answer you'll get from 90% of the members of this site.

Worth is a very hard thing to determine. Is what I've purchased worth it in terms of sheer performance? No. The CAI is probably the only thing I've bought that has yielded $350 in performance. Everything has been worth it to me so far. Just in different facets.

Its not worth it if you think you're going to get your money back thats for sure. But it is worth it just for the fun.

Like I've said before...out of the box, this car is fast enough...
Damn, you can't floor it most of the time you are driving it due to traffic.

But my mod goal is 300HP at the wheels and a little more TQ...then I'm done!!
All I want is a 300HP 4cyl car... :)
