As of last night, my test pipe is officially installed and this is my prognosis on the entire installation and performance aspects.
First things first. We sprayed down the cat with water, then lubed up the bolts with whatever the my friend sprayed on it. We jacked up the front of the car and went to work with loosening up the bolts and pulling the cat off.
After pulling it off, we hammered the small bolts off of the cat and we realized that we could not hammer nor loosen the longer bolts off of the other side of the cat. Hence, a problem.
We tried our F'n hardest to get these bolts off and could not. We were about to go to Lowes to get an exact pair, but lucky for us his neighbor has a completely hooked up Speed3 and provided us with his bolts from his stock exhaust. So we hung the pipe, bolted up the back and realized that the bolts he gave us could not thread properly with the nuts. Figures doesn't it. So my friend requested 6 washers from him, put 3 on each bolt, tightened it up and it was completely secure.
Performance wise, I noticed a huge gain in low end torque more then anything. Cruising at 28k and giving it a little gas, the car took off with no shutter fuel cut crap our cars do. I see an adequate difference off the line and mid to high RPM's.
As far as sound is concerned, it definitely sounds a lot better. A lot deeper/meaner exhaust note under 3k and when RPM's are decreasing and shifting too.
I'm definitely impressed with it and glad I made the 89 dollar investment from Protege garage.
