went to a buddy of mine's dads dealership. (stingray chevrolet) where they are doing a thing, test drive a car get free tickets to daytona500 SO, i went today with my buddy. test drove a 2010 camaro SS in ORANGE!! haha.

it was the 6spd manual with the LS3 and as i know the car weighs some where in the 43xxlbs range (its heavy as hell) the gear box didn't feel too great. clutch felt nice. interior is definitely VERY NICE! which i was surprised cause most american performance cars interiors aren't so up to par. aside from the vette.

seats were very comfortable, steering very controlled and handled well. but you can really tell what a pig this car is.

now on to performance, and well, im not impressed AT ALL! not stock anyways. (with bolt ons and a tune i think this car will really come alive and shine) but stock, these cars are slow. and i was really very let down. (my speeds almost fully bolted so of course its not going to feel faster) but i thought for sure i would feel SOMETHING from this car and just didn't do it for me.

the launch control feature is def a very cool option tho!

but, in the end... i would still own this car. but only after i bought some bolt ons an could get it tuned cause then i am sure this car would feel amazing! and god is it nice! inside and out they just look SO damn good!

I would love to drive one myself..dispite being heavy pig..think the ss is around 3850-3900lb curb weight anyways..but still thier trapping 110 mph through the 1/4 mile..The ls series engine responds well with bolt ons... and a cam upgrade alone is usually worth 70-90 hp...Though If I were to seriously by this car..Id have to supercharge it...thier slowly comming out of the woodwork and with 8.5 psi of boost the horsepower jumps from 426 to 600..which would be a blast to drive lol..anyways thanks for the review man :)

I read a review in C&D where they Supercharged a Camaro SS- it was pulling the same 1/4 miles times I am with my SRT6. IMHO that's a bit disappointing- I'd expect it to be at least in mid 11's with that kind of financial investment on top of the already expensive Camaro.

PS I saw numbers on a Lingenfelter Supercharged Pontiac G8 and it's running almost a full second slower than me. (uhm) I always thought blown V8 are monsters- I'm assuming weight is the problem in both of these instances.

yeah they are like 3800 and some change i believe. (heavy ass car) my buddys dad who owns the dealership has a dark grey one with intake. headers. short throw shifter. exhaust. and its lowered and the car feels TOTALLY different. i could only imagine how cams would sound an feel. theres a lot in store for these cars.

Its called lack of traction. The cars are designed for a low 13 second quarter mile run with an average driver. You can't just throw a supercharger on a car and expect it to be a drag strip monster. Supercharging just means you're going to have s*** for traction. You need a lot of supporting modifications to get that power to the ground (Slicks help too). Having an IRS makes that even more fun due to wheel hop. I learned this the hard (and expensive way) with my Mustang. From now on I'll just buy cars designed with the performance I want in mind. That's why I bought a Speed3 for a daily driver and thats why I'll likely just get a vette for a toy once I'm bored with the Mustang.

Drove an auto SS a few months ago. No doubt it's a very heavy car. Didn't feel overwhelmingly fast to me at all. My only gripe about the interior is those cheap, flimsy looking silver plastic panels on the doors. They look like a total afterthought. Other than that, I really liked it. My first experience with a remote starter. LOVE THAT.

It's a nice cruiser, but it's too big and porky for me. The interior screams cheap. In any event, Gubmint Motors has already taken enough of my tax dollars- I'm not giving them any more of my hard-earned money.

nice review. i've only sat in one. definitely better interior than the ford and dodge counterparts. love the classic looking gauges. plus the camaro has much better visibility than the dodge. (whats the point of owning a fast car if you can't see out of it?)

Well I worked as a sales rep for a chevy store for about 8 months and I really loved the Camaro of course you do need many mods to help make her the way you want her. A friend of mine bought the LS3 Man. 426hp camaro and all he did was put a new exhaust and headers and is now putting 406 to the wheels and you can really feel the difference! It just needs some TLC like anything else.
