Temp Gauge and a place to put it

HEy guys, Im new to the japanese car scene, my previous daily was a 98 gti vr6 but its been modded so much that its become quite unbarable to drive on a daily basis so i just drive it on the weekends now.
anyway, I feel really uncomfortable with no temp gauge in my m2. IS there a temp gauge available for the 2? and if there is, is there a place where i can mount it? like an a pillar gauge pod holder or on the steering column?
I am at work and I have limited access on the internet.

The M2 has a on/off. If it's on, s***'s wrong.

Constantly staring at a gauge isn't really going to do too much for you unless if you want to time to see how long it takes for the thermostat to open.
 
I miss having a temp gauge. I may end up getting one of those super gauges. Pretty decent price, and does more than just the temp gauge.

Also it helps to be able to see the active temperature reading. I'd rather KNOW my car is CLOSE to overheating, then wait for the dummy light like a sucker... Temp gauges should be standard equipment.
 
Take a look at Scangauge and the other digital readouts that tell you everything going on in OBD II

There are several different brands out there that are cheaper than Scangauge that all do the same thing.

Because overheating usually doesn't blow anything. So there is nothing to replace under the warranty, but overheating does put a lot of unneeded stress on parts, and that will weaken things. Too many overheating sessions, and you could blow a gasket, hose, rad... And that would probably happen AFTER the warranty is up anyways. Warranties are only so long for a reason...

I like that ultraguage! Would be great for my wife's 5.
On a car this new I'm not too worried about overheating. Now when I had my older subarus...I think I watched the temp guage more than the tach.
 
^ lol, I do the same with my temp gauge when I drive my gti! Although after spending mucho denero on replacing the whole cooling system I dont do it as often.

To add to that: with the gauge I, for example, was able to nurse my car home with the thermostat stuck at 'close' (or it could've been failed fan -- don't remember). Essentially, turn the blower on full heat and look at the gauge -- pull over and turn it off as soon as it starts to climb over the limit, let it cool, repeat. With the dummy red/blue light, I wouldn't know if I were 10% or 100% over the limit.
 
Might have to pick up one of these Ultragauges...

Oh and on one of the jdmparts sites there is a gauge pod for the center of the dash, but it is angled for RHD iirc.
 
The ultra gauge is probably the easiest way to go. I think I am gonna get one of these as my next purchase. Although a gauge pod would be cleaner looking I think.

PGTBrow, I think I've seen that gauge pod you're talking about. It sucks it is only for RHD, it's a nice little unit.

That was a way of life for me when I had my second rx-7. I remember driving it around in the south florida summer heat with the heat on full blast to prevent it from overheating. Not too much fun. I'm not too worried about having those issues on a car this new.

HAHA... i've done that a bunch in my Probe too. Not the most comfortable thing lol.
 
My Ultra gauge location

Engine Temp is on the top right , it can display a lot of data. Very happy with it .
