Say I have an intel based U-ATA controller like the 82801BA.
What kind of performance difference should I expect between using the stock win2k drivers and the official intel drivers?

If the drivers for the intel controller are made for Win2k, and they are newer than the win2k drivers, then use the intel drivers. Otherwise, the win2k will most likely be better. Its always good to use official drivers, but Microsoft sometimes makes better drivers for older devices that dont have updated drivers. ;)
