Hello all, I have a 2006 Mazdaspeed6. I am original owner, It has 85k miles on it but I bought extended 5 year 100k mile warranty. I had some loss of power issues that I initially thought would be a fuel pump issue. Took to dealership which pulled multiple codes. Turns out that it needs new fuel pump, some sort of sensor and new EGR valve as they determined that carbon deposits have caused it to fail. In any event, the Mazda Total Care Warranty is denying coverage on the EGR Valve because it failed due to carbon buildup. It must be considered to have failed due to "defect in material or workmanship" and they consider carbon buildup as normal wear and tear, thus not covered.
I will preface by stating that I am not capable of performing any of these repairs myself and am just trying to get the repairs covered under the warranty as I feel it should be. I have stated that I feel the early failure is a design defect, beyond normal wear and tear. I have located a TSB regarding carbon buildup in the throttle body but have been unable to locate the text which describes the symptoms and fix, just the title of the TSB. It is my understanding that the EGR valve is fed by the throttle body, or connected to it and was hoping the full text of this TSB (SB-01-007-09) would be helpful in determining the cause of the carbon buildup and possibly get this covered as being more than just buildup from normal operation but caused by some other design defect, part failure.
Any help locating the full text of that TSB or information regarding the carbon buildup or failure of the EGR valve would be appreciated. Remember, I mechanically/technically challenged, I have understanding of engines/turbos beyond average person, but not up to the level of a lot of you guys. So please keep that in mind in responses. I have a feeling that this TSB will present a different cause of the excessive carbon buildup beyond normal operation and wear and tear.
