Hey guys,I'm in an auto tech class in college and I'm helping someone take apart his 1.6 lt Miata engine.We've gotten pretty far,now we got to the part where we have to take off the oil pan and it's stuck on something.Can someone help?
if its like the proteges oil pan, there should be a nut that is welded onto the pan on the edge. if there is, take one of the bolts from the oil pan and start to thread it into the nut. this will push against the bottom of the block and should start to seperate the pan. if there is no nut, you might have to use a screwdriver to seaperate the pan from the block. just be careful not to bend the edge of the pan. you also might have to use some muscle and "hang" on the pan to seperate it. good luck and let me know how it goes!!!

So yesterday,I saw what the problem was...haha!There was thin strip of metal that was still holding the pan to the engine by some sort of glue/resin so we just pryed that b**** out and viola..the two were finally separated.
Be sure to seal it back up when you reassemble. Aside from the two strips at the front and rear of the pan, the Miata doesn't employ a full gasket as do some engines.
Nope...the pan is a b**** to separate from the engine. As you have probably already discovered, it's best to pry at the ends of the transmission mount "wings" and work your way in.
